| MpoweredPC Best Residential DSL Service in WORLD
Mpowerered in my opinion is the best residential service in the World for the money. When mpowered began it's DSL service a few years ago they started with the Paradyne DSL modem. This modem had a limit of 7MBPS and they did not cap these modems. Yes Over 800 KiloBYTES / sec. Thats over 7000kbps. Not too long after mpowered came out the switch the brand of the DSL modems they were using to Cisco 675, and now the Cisco 678. The Cisco modems have a max speed of 7MBPS but are Capped at 3 MBPS. Upstream speeds on both the paradyne and cisco are limmited to 1MBPS (125 Kilobytes/sec) Approx 95% on mpowered users have Ciscos and the rest (The first customers of the service) still have the paradyne modems. (Lucky buggers)Although I am currently working on try to find a way to get one myself... Anyone who got mpowered when it first came out would have still have this paradyne modem. The paradyne modems are on a different network then the ciscos. The paradyne network is also know as the Old network, and the Ciscos are known to be on the new network . It's too bad they switched to the Ciscos. I believe they switched to the Cisco's because they can be hooked to more then one computer at a time. Mpowered works on a NAT translation program with internal IP's in the 10.x.x.x range and translating to external IP's 142.x.x.x range. I believe have the Internal IP's i much better. Two Mpowered users can transfer between each other without having to go on the internet. Everytime Mpowered has been down (I've had it 2 years now, and I've notice it down three times, the longest time was 4 hrs) And everytime it's been down it's just been the internet that was down. We could still transfer over the internal IP's to other mpowered users. The 10.x static internal IP's is also great for maping network drives with friends computer. If you can believe it this service costs $39.99 CND. And since I have a special package on my phone I only pay 36.99$ CND!!! I have yet to see any DSL service anywhere with this kind of speed for this kind of price. Cable Modems have now started to come around in our province now. Although they are great for people not in an Mpowered area. If you are in an mpowered area and have a cable modem instead, well all I can say is you don't know what your missing.. If you think cables good, then you will be blown away by mpowered. I currently have the Cisco 675 and am running Windows 2000 Professional. I see speeds averaging around 150 kBytes/sec in the browser, and as high as 300kbytes sometimes. My friend has the Paradyne modem and can easily see 500 Kbyte/sec. Thats just about a Megabyte ever 2 seconds!! That's faster then a T1!!I've always said if I ever decided to move the first determining factor in where I move to would be whether or not it is an mpowered Area. When you get mpowered the technicial comes to your house Brings the modem as well as a network card and has you up and running before he leaves. A new option that just came out is called "Mpowered in the BOx" They send you a kit with a modem and filters to put on the phone line and you install it yourself. My friend just got this kit and I went and installed it for him and Had it up in running in under 5 Minutes. Mpowered again has outdone it self. I knwo they must be the absolute best consumer ISP in the World. Oh ya and one more thing if they tell you, you need a USB port for Mpowered in the BOx they are lying... If you have your own network card it will work just fine... So if they ask you if you have a USB port and you don't just lie and say you do...
