 [XP] Best Freeware Registry cleaner?

I was looking for a registry cleaner for XP Pro.

I heard of Reg First aid. It found about 800 invalid/irrelevant entries in my registry (shared dlls, application pats, s/w entries, etc.).

BUT, it would only allow me to remove 15 entries per scan! as it was an evaluation version.

Can you suggest a freeware alternative which will do a similar job without messing up my registry?

I currently use regclean but that utility did not show any invalid entries in my registry!! \

Weird. One utility shows 800 invalid entries. The other shows NONE!

Try this, it is a great "full version" registry cleaner for XP! I have been using it for about 6 months now with no probs, all changes can be fully restored so you are safe. I like it, you be the judge.

File removed - Downloads.com link to program RegScrub...MSeng

Use the word registry as a search topic, you'll find plenty of past discussions to draw from.

FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION. It comes bundled with the software.

1.) Is RegScrub freeware? This is what dOOby requested.
2.)None of the download sites works...

I am very comfortable with the last freeware version of jv16 PowerTools ver1.3.0.196. === dOOby, you'll probably have to do a Google search to find it unless someone else has pointed to a site in a previous discussion here.

Hmmm The Mods removed my upload? Sorry guys, I am sure they had a good reason. Perhaps a google search for RegScrub Xp v3.25? Good luck. I will email the prog to any one who ask for it, the size is only 548KB.

If you try this one, all the others will be forgotten! Its called, "Regseeker", freeware, fastest I've ever seen, and it will find obsolete entries that others have missed. Go here to get it:

I like RegSeeker because it found over 500 entries that jv16, or RegAid found. I've used it several times now with no problems at all.

It does not find/remove irrelevant shared dll entries from registry which are shown by the shareware Reg first aid s/w. Apart from that, it works brilliantly...

I had problems with this s/w a couple of months back. It apparantly crashed my system several times. There was some weird file lock error or something. (I can't recall the full error details)

I'll try Regscrub and other s/w recommended here.

I have about 236 irrelevant shared dll entries(according to shareware Reg first aid) in my registry which I want to remove.

I doubt very seriously if you will find a program that will delete ANY .dll automatically. The responsibility of deleting those type files will be on the user. Perhaps they are being used? Good luck!

Nice link. It's been a long time since I cleaned my PC's Registry and RegSeeker looks like some good software.

Regclean has a feature for that. I just dicovered it yesterday! It cleaned up those shared dll entries from my registry.

Regclean is the best!

RegSeeker is by far the best
Run any other cleaner(s) then run RegSeeker and you'll see all the stuff the others leave behind.
Only fair way to judge them.

Looks like RegCleaner has now become RegSupreme and is no longer free (30 day trial version). However, it IS compatible with ME and XP:

"System requirements
Any computer running Windows 95, 98, 98 SE, ME, NT, 2000 or XP operating system..."

I was directed to this link via "Help" within the RegCleaner program:
