Easier UK Method

Possible shorter easier method for Voyager Modem:

On any windows just double click the arrows in the taskbar.

Then choose connect.

Click properties.

Delete the phone number (usually 0,38)

screenname@aol.com=user
your aol pasword=password

You are now ready to roll.

Then happily connect and delete all crappy aol uk software. I then suggest to get Tuneup abilites and clean up the mess AOL leaves in your regestry...

Could this please become a sticky topic? It would be very useful for AOL UK members. After all you have the method for the US service.

Hi There,

I Am Located In London UK, I Found That It Was The AOL 7 Software That Kept Giving Me The Blue Screen N Constantly Crashing My Internet Browser. At First I Thought It Was The Modem Software But I Was Mistaken.

I Am Using The Saiyanora Method, Without Loading AOL Software. I Have Connected To The Internet At 576.0kbps

And Am Downloading In The Region Of 60KBPS.

So I Can Verify This Method Is Working. Thanks For The Tip Mate. Very Useful

Cheers

Zemme

'connect' where? There's no such thing!

You say "any windows" but are you sure you're not just talking about XP? Surely you are!

If you have the Voyager modem you should have 2 arrows on the taskbar (bottom right hand side of screen); they should be green if the modem works.

I was on ME and I had them and now on XP I have them.

Hi

I have tried all the methods here and am having no luck. I tried your method, which as you say looks the easiest, but when I remove the telephone number from the modem properties (0,38 for me aswell) a dialogue box headed up Dial-Up Networking appears with the message "A telephone number is required. Please typle the telephone number you want to dial"

I would try the other method of creating a new connection with the USB modem but I can't find the "telephone number to use" as I don't have the AOL WITH DSL connection mentioned above.

the AOL cleint keeps on crasing my machine and would appreciate any help.

AOL 8.0, Windows 98, BT Voyager Modem.

This is on the BT Voyager connection (like the one when you click the arrows and then connect).

Try clicking properties and going to the options tab. Then de-check "prompt for phone number"

Or

Try my above method.

My connection keeps dropping out.
aol8 (as 9 won't connect at all) with a BT Voyager Modem.
Tried to do the above connecting thing but on windows 98 you don't get the network connection option... without making the new connection that was posted last..I double clicked on the arrows and entered my user name and password..but it kept telling me it needed a telephone number, so I typed DSL and it connected !!.....
Am I connected properly or will AOL be sending me a massive dial up bill?? Thanks

I have setup via Internet Connection Sharing on Xp and have been surfing on my laptop It's fun without any wires :D:D

I think theirs a link somewhere in this forum about how to set up ICS, since that showed me how to do it. Or search Microsoft.com with either ICS or Internet Connection Sharing I am sure they'res a guide their.

Hehe and AOL said they didn't support Home Networking

if your connecting at 500+ kbs then your using dsl, therefore you wont be charged.

To check if you are try downloading it should be somewhere between 30/60 kbs.

Anyway I don't think a DsL modem could make a normal Dial up connection

Do you guys think It would be good to write up a guide about this, using information from this topic?

Then hopefully that would get stickied, I think this one is too messed-up for a stickying...

it cant diferent setup not even these dialers can use a chargable connection on the bt voyager adsl modem..as there is only one number that works in the uk broadband no matter who the isp is....the only no: 0.38.................
