| Anyone else having this BOClean problem?
 (screenshot of alert screen) |
We've heard from two of our customers this morning that after updating their Kapersky antivirus, the KAV Monitor is falsely detecting BOClean's text based configuration file as a possible new variant of the "Serv-U" back door. Naturally this is a false alarm. However, the more information we have as to how many other people might have had this occur, the easier it is for us to work with Kapersky to get to the bottom of the propblem and refine their definitions so as to prevent similar false alarms.
We make it a point to work closely with other security vendors for the greater benefit of all, regardless of which products they choose, and want to provide Kapersky with as much detail as possible. They're good folks, thus this caught me as quite a surprise.
If you're using Kapersky and have run into this, please contact me so I can ask you to send me YOUR BOC411.INI file in order that we can provide Kapersky with several samples so they can solve this. If this has happened to you as well, please send Kapersky a copy of yours also. The BOC411.INI file holds configurations for BOClean's screens as well as "flight recorder" information, all of it in plain text. There's no "code" in that file which makes this all the more surprising.

| I'm going to post a "Hey mods" on this to have it pulled - Kapersky's folks fixed it a couple of hours later with a redefinition ... anyone affected merely needs to get a redownload of the Kapersky update done earlier today. -- Kevin McAleavey support@nsclean.comhttp://www.nsclean.com/ |
