Re: new folder colors

Looks better now, but why not can the "Nothing selected" deal if there really isn't anything to see?

Sorry if I'm being too picky.

Just curious, but what is the easiest way for us to go in to a forum and easily see which threads we have posted in, regardless if they are updated or not?

Im only asking because I am so used to searching for the icon after the title, that I don't know what to look for now.

I thought about that before posting. Usually we use the "unreplied" topics link to ferret those out and get help to them. There are very few unreplied topics over in Ameritech (for example), less than 20 in the last month.

Your idea to have single-post "orphans" stand out is a good one. Maybe leave those bright red and once they are replied to soften to a darker red. Or maybe I'm just making this more complicated. We already have two ways to find these...

It's probably OK the way it is. It just seemed backwards to me, since the ones you were interested enough in to read in the first place would be the ones you'd be more interested in continuing to read when updated.

I agree completely....

no dude , i want all changes done at once , if i work on a site i test it out in a beat mode , on another server then when all the bugs are out ... i make the switch.

you could warn people in advance that the forums will be down on such and such day for the change

Sorry I find this almost amusing. Some people really reject change. I guess people fear what they don't know or don't understand. I like the new orange folder, makes it much easier to tell where I have already looked and said "nope doesn't pertain to me" and moved on. Have you ever run a message board H8? Obviously not. There are some things you want to test before making it public (especially risky code that tampers with the mySQL database or the engine itself) but most of this cosmetic stuff is pointless to test. Justin apparently has several co-lo servers to host this site. It takes time for all servers to sync. (Level 5 RAID or lower?)

During that time you will see inconsistencies and some minor bugs. As far as "bugs with cosmetic changes" is ridiculous. It causes no problems with the site and it just makes it inconvenient for those who do not like the change. If you were not hear to give your $0.02 worth Justin would never know that some people don't like the change. Maybe it will influence him, maybe it won't. Maybe your opinion is the only one thinking so poorly of the changes.

Anyway sorry for the rant, I just find it ridiculous how so many of you constantly bash the very man who spends much of his day working on this board for us. I have ran PHP and ASP boards in the past. Making changes is fun and whenever you get to the point that "the site is good enough" you are no longer striving to make it better and your site will fall. Justin is doing the right thing. So for what it's worth Justin, Great Job on all the hard work! Look forward to all the changes.

(PS for those who care, some changes I don't like, most I do. However I can see how this simplifies things for many so I overlook it. Something some of you should look into.)

IMO the getting rid of the "you posted here" icon is the worst thing that has ever happened to this website.

I think I'm leaving now.

I dont really think this color change was needed.

A topic you replied in was either RED or NOT RED. Simple enough. Now with these different colors, its wierd.

Maybe if its a HOT topic make it a blinking RED or something if its one you posted in.

If its a HOT TOPIC and you havent posted in IT, make it a blinking grey color or whatever it was before.

No, it's the change of the icons that make the site look terrible and hard to use.

Just giving my opinion here. As you can see by this screen cap, the forums are now quite the eye sore with so many icons.

1. I still don't see the purpose of including a locked icon next to an envelope. I have been around these parts for more than 3 years, and I have never noticed a locked thread that has been updated. If it was updated, what wast he purpose for it being locked. Defeats that purpose if you ask me.

2. ribbon next to envelopes. As it stands, the ribbon can mean two different things. One, it means that we have posted in the thread, which "naturally" would mean we want to follow it. Two, it means that it is a thread that we have followed, but not necessarily posted in. My problem is this. If I go in to a forum, I just like to casually glance at the threads and see which ones I have posted in. Sometimes I just like taking note as to how many views the thread has. If I search for ribbons, I am viewing threads that I have posted in, AND followed (without posting in). I think there definately needs to be a distinction between the two.

3. The little red dot in its own space has got to go. The site is starting to look like it was made for AOL with all the icons that are now popping up.

I agree.

If I posted in it, I want to follow it automatically UNLESS i click the STOP link. If I didnt post in it I could care less about it.

Excellent changes, justin See Profile.

The extra information provided is very helpful. Especially the unjoined but updated icon.

I for one love the new updates! My only complaint is the lack of a current "ignore thread" feature.

Nice work Justin!

Like everything else, changes will always take a little while to get used to. Remember the whole top bar fiasco?

Could you adjust the colors just a little bit? I keep confusing the orange one with white ones. Maybe a darker one?

control-R a forum with whites and yellows see if it looks more distinct?

What does Control+R do?

Is there a way to sitemark a thread if I haven't posted in it?

I tried to sitemark one today, but the option wasnt there, so I had to enter a lame "thanks for posting this" comment. Once I did that, the option showed up.

Would it be possible to change the system so that people can sitemark without having to post in the thread?
