| reply to 35375105 I agree. The more I look at the forums now, the worse I like these color changes. Makes the forums look childish with these big colorful icons. The previous way looked better, imho. -- Click Me I'm Deviant!|Click Me I'm Live! |

1 edit | reply to justin Hey the "it sucks" descriptions are always funny to read.
But if you stand a chance of influencing changes, you have to do better than that. It doesn't suck just because it has changed. Come up with a reasoned and constructive criticism, and provide an alternative vision, or don't waste time posting because then you sound like a whiner.
The fact is that people had been pointing out in the past lots of issues with the old scheme, and they were correct. This addresses those problems.
If you think this folder design is ugly, fair enough, then come up with a better one. If you want all states of a topic represented in one icon then you'll need to generate a WHOLE BUNCH of images:
locked vs unlocked hot vs not followed vs not followed new topic vs updated topic vs seen topic posted in vs not posted in
that is ... 2 x 2 x 2 x 3 x 2 = 48 different icons.
Come up with a self-consistent set of 48 different images, that look ok on both light colored forums and dark colored forums, and I'll use them! I'd be extremely glad to. |

no way to tell when a locked topic had been updated or was completely new.
no way to distinguish the difference between a new topic and one previously clicked, that had updates. (a very important distinction).
no indication of followed topics.
no way to tell whether a sticky had been updated, or was new (because there was only a single sticky gif for all reasons).
All these things have come up, at some stage or other, as criticisms, and they are all valid.
so what has changed, really:
For most forums, the ONLY difference is a color change on one folder, and the extra "lock" icon appearing on locked threads. Oh, plus the yellow ribbon appearing for "followed topics". (which I think is better than the "posted in" mark that illogically follows the topic title).
For a couple of popular social forums, the number of "hot topics" means a lot of topics get the folder cell background color addition, indicating 'hot topic'. I'm quite happy to do away with 'hot topic' notifications completely if you like, there are plenty of ways to see hot topics on the site already. |

| reply to justin i really didnt have a problem with the old way. red was fine, i'd remember if i read it-- just like an indication to see something was added on. its more clear now, not really necessary IMHO

Ah constructive criticism, thanks.
voted (topic voting) is back-lit, on the topic subject. At least, if the forum theme has not been edited by the mod to remove that.
I agree that "hot topic" is kind of redundant. I'd like to remove it. The 'red dot' is better to my eyes (not for black backgrounds yet, the gif still needs tuning) than a back-lite, but should be done away with completely if its still irritating to waste space indicating such things. |

1 edit | reply to justin I do not like most of the new changes:
1) All of the new icons and what they mean - I will never remember them.
2) Read threads are getting mixed in with threads that have NOT been updated.
3) On my Fav forums I would LOVE to see it go back to where all I could see are the threads I posted to that were updated and nothing else. Now they are mixed and I have to stop following them - I only have 17+ pages of followed threads - I am NOT going to go thru 17 pages hitting Stop on each one.
This is nearly as bad as trying to go thru 3 pages of Saved threads only to not have them unsave the first time.
If the format is going to be kept then we all need a mass 'upkeep' of the threads that are already marked.
Maybe doing the changes you have made in the last day or 2 slowly thru the week but I do not care for the changes at all. It is now more difficult to read the things I want to read while ignoring those thread that have not been updated... -- Brian

1 edit | reply to justin Isn't putting a ribbon near an envelope redundant? I would imagine that for 99% of the people here, if you have posted in the thread, you would want it followed (makes sense).
Secondly, why put an envelope along with a lock icon? If the thread is locked, no one is posting to it anymore, so that will alleviate the need for showing any sort of envelope, right? |

I vote to trash the red dot. I looks like a laser is aimed at the icon block. To much real estate wasted anyway. -- Dan |

Because some threads are locked but kept updated by mods and so on. Not all locked threads are dead and static. |

2. On what screen? are you seeing this, please post a screen shot and explanation.
3. Fav forums view (with topics shown) displays followed topics (ie: topics you have posted to and are updated) AND it displays new topics. It has always been so.
3a. Why are you going through 17+ pages of followed threads (presumably looking for updates) when there is a "updated followed" tab that just shows what you want? |
