red = new topic
orange = updates to a topic you have read
white = no updates (entirely read)
ribbon = followed topic
lit background color = site "hot" topic
Nice look so far and as always a work in progress.

new topic

Isn't putting a ribbon near an envelope redundant? I would imagine that for 99% of the people here, if you have posted in the thread, you would want it followed (makes sense)

Yes this is true, but I'm probably going to deal with this by REMOVING the posted-here icon. Why? because it never worked well, and it is not in a logical place. It never worked well because the memory was short-term. You could look back several pages and find the posted-here icons vanish, even though you did post in the topic.

Maybe the red dot is for a hot thread?

It actually displays that help on my forum view currently. The red dot means 'hot topic'. Think of it as one of those chilli icons you get on menus.

Ok....is there a difference between "hot topic" and "lit background color = site "hot" topic" ?

you are looking at a cached page, or a page from a server that hasnt rolled yet. It doesn't say that currently. If you still see it, look later.

Well actually....that dang comment you made about "chilli" has made me hungry. How about straightening this place up while I'm gone but don't move things around to much in my absence

Read and unread together - mixed
Click for full size
Untidy Updated and followed
2) Fav forums - mixed read and unread together when before it simply had all the updated unread threads (or new) and then all of the unread threads - now it is mixed.

3) It used to be you could have Updated posts in threads you responded to - nothing else. Nice and tidy - only ones that would stick around were sticky threads. As soon as I read all of the updated threads I posted to I would have NO threads listed till someone updated a thread I posted in. Nice and clean unlike the second pic which shows threads from July and August - stuff I had already read and have not been updated in a LONG time.

3a) Yes you are correct - I was mixing the 2. My apologies...:)

i may not like the changes but i must say that at least this site is getting updates for better functionality.(sp?)
some people out there could give a crap less obout there boards.
at least things get done around here.
i think we all a member of this site becouse alot of the other ones suck!
i may not like what it looks liek now, it does look confusing and stuff but hey, ill just have to get used to it i guess.
is there a way we can choose what look we would rather have? liek classic or new style?

I like it but I hate it... It makes so much more sense, and makes things clearer... but change requires changing my habits, and thinking! Why do you have to make us think! I also do not like the orange, maybe some other color. I don't know... maybe a not-so-bright orange.

No you are wrong, the topics were always ordered by time of last update. Just that all the folders were red. They are STILL ordered that way, but now you get to see additional info - orange means you read the topic before.

Just read them, (click blue arrows), and they will vanish for good. They are the residuals from moving 'site marked' topics to 'followed' topics.

a few things are confusing: you have followed and sitemarked, what's the difference...

and why does it say on the bottom of a topic; follow this topic; when by your definition, following is: posting in and updated?

did I get something wrong?

by following, instinctively; I thought, things you would like updates on, not one that you posted in. I'd advise not to make a reply on a thread automatically mean followed & trash the sitemarked, don't need no hot topic icon. and if possible if you had followed a topic and later posted to, to make it automatically not followed...

followed = followed

site marked = marking any followed topic so you can see it in another tab (marked topics). You'd follow topics you are interested in, you'd site-mark those followed that are useful for future reference.

So at the bottom of the topic, follow this topic, is quite useful, because you can follow something you have not posted in. When you post, however, you follow it. Like it or not. I don't think people should post in topics and not follow them by default. They can of course un-follow them later with another click it they want to. (for those posts that say .. "i am done here").

My screen does not show blue arrows at all if it is supposed to - even after clearing the cache and opening a new tab. Yes they clear if I read them but there is not blue arrow to click except for the first thread from today. All of the older threads have no arrow.

You know better for #2 but it is highly irratating going from one color to another. The page is still way busier than it needs to be. Before I knoew what I read as well - by the pencil or notepad - a lot less intrusive and easier on the eyes and it was completely intuitive. Now I have to try and remember what the colors mean.

At the bottom of each page you have this:

(topic: [pic] unread, [pic] updated, [pic] seen [pic]locked [pic] hot . lit subject: voted)

Shouldn't there by a comma before locked? And what's the period doing there?

now i get it, to archive certain topics...

ah yes, much better then the ignore thing, when other people blabber on...

so I guess what you mean is that when clicking on the posts TAB, people should get to the 'updated followed' instead of the 'topics joined' standardly...

updated followed is the best view IMO.
It is the default if you have not yet had it remember a view.
