Could you adjust the colors just a little bit? I keep confusing the orange one with white ones. Maybe a darker one? -- ircd.removed.us - #dslr | oWn3d@removed.us |

| reply to justin Been looking at the new setup for a couple of hours now and it seems that logically the red and orange folders are backwards. The reds are calling too much attention to themselves to my eye, considering what they are supposed to indicate, and the oranges not enough.
Maybe reverse the two. Have orange indicate a new (unread) topic, and then if it gets replies (and stays alive) it turns red (updated) with new posts. That seems to be more in tune with the colors used. It also reduces the visual clutter of "unread" posts you don't necessarily want to read and is more intuitive. -- If god took LSD, would he see people? |

justin Australian join:1999-05-28 Brooklyn, NY | reply to removed oh i see. Because you have a dark bacground, you are not seeing the black border the new orange folder has.
It is "kind of" the same color, but has a light source. You want it to be solid color, I suppose. |

| reply to justin Ok it seems that I am currently too stupid to remember what all the new folder colors mean. Would it be ugly/difficult to make the meaning of the icon/color pop up when you mouseover it? Like when you put the cursor over the "post reply" button you get "Reply to this", etc. Might be cluttered, I don't know. -- everyone I know goes away in the end irc.removed.us #dslr | email me fellas |

Maybe. Devils advocate: In a tech forum, you would hope that new topics (completely unread) are questions, and the sooner they get answered the better.
So they should stand out, then descend to something less obvious.
In other words, one can argue that the wack-a-mole priority in forums for a regular is to hit the most "stand out" topics first (red ones) then the yellow ones. That way, people get answers faster. |

| I thought about that before posting. Usually we use the "unreplied" topics link to ferret those out and get help to them. There are very few unreplied topics over in Ameritech (for example), less than 20 in the last month.
Your idea to have single-post "orphans" stand out is a good one. Maybe leave those bright red and once they are replied to soften to a darker red. Or maybe I'm just making this more complicated. We already have two ways to find these...
It's probably OK the way it is. It just seemed backwards to me, since the ones you were interested enough in to read in the first place would be the ones you'd be more interested in continuing to read when updated. -- If god took LSD, would he see people? |

That is probably true for busy forums, but not for quieter forums. Although busy forums are in the majority. Another thought: a lot of people run seti themes, or use dark themed forums. And for them, the orange stands out more than the (darker) red. So for them, the ones they've clicked on because the topic sounded tempting, will stand out more.
Its a hassle. I don't really know the solution. A more pastel red folder could be done but then the dark forum people would complain about it glowing, and ask for an alternate set of images |

RadioDoc 58ef2c0 Premium,ExMod 2000-03 join:2000-05-11 | Yeah about the only real solution probably is to have animated icons using the same color scheme (blinkers, ugh), but you definitely don't want to start down that road... -- If god took LSD, would he see people? |

I like all the changes, but only wish there was a choice of colors to match your forum view.
For instance some of these icons may get lost in the default AA color scheme.
As for the default view of my post, it feels like spring time in November. Just a little bright. Give us an option to change that color scheme in "untitled2.png" and I'll be happy as a lark in June. -- First Lieutenant, 1st Platoon [BBR]JMPLEP America's Army |

| reply to justin I'm tired of interface changes every two weeks. I don't see what the actual improvement is except to make the entire site more icon based, cryptic and unreadable. If Microsoft reinvented the Windows Interface every two weeks they would go out of business really quick. As it is now everytime you "improve" the site, I have to spend two hours pushing my mouse around to some unexpected new place to find the function I'd grow used to a few weeks ago. I don't actually know why I even bother commenting since Justin pretty much seems to his own work and tends to ignore any comments except raves. But frankly, I may not frequent this site much longer as I can't be bothered to relearn the interface on a bimonthly basis. -- AFTER the pin is pulled, Mr. Grenade is no longer our FRIEND...»www.ratrancher.com |

See I feel the kind of like that , but if the forums were lets say down and people were told that changes were being made then when the forums were back it was over.. It might make it a little bit easier...
But I dont mind change, after all the forums use proprietary software, so its just like up dates to the code, I think thats fine. -- Clark in 2004 |

| reply to Happyrat The changes are quite cosmetic. It is only a color change of a folder, basically, with some glitches for some people during the transition (always sorry about those), and addition of functions people have asked for (which you are free to ignore).
I am pretty sure 99% of common functions on the site are pretty much the same, and are in the same place, as they always were. In fact, only a forum addict would notice the site was different today, to a year ago.
You posted the following new topic in the canadian ISP forum. if you do actually quit the site over these changes, may I re-use this text? Just for people posting "i hate this -- it sucks", of course.
