Re: Looking for Alcatel Speedtouch 510 v4

Greetings,

Alcatel modems? Whats that? Alcatel no longer makes Speedtouch series of modems, Thomson, company with the worst reliability and customer service standards(RCA anyone?), does.

As I am the one who looks after all the Alcatel modems in Canada.
I would be more than happy to post all the ISP's that offer them as well as retail locations. Look, Magma, Primus, Golden all have stock of 510 single port..the 510 4 port will be coming in next week with the new firmware 4.2

my e-mail for work is jamie@m2datatel.com
or use alcatel@treehouse.ca

NOTE--I do not do tec support or help with hacking BUT can direct you for support issues

Thanks to everyone that replied. I did manage to get a Speedtouch 510 from CanDSL for $125+$10 shipping. Much better than the $145+ that other places were giving. To JCR5, yes the 510 does give line stats in the web interface so you don't even need Alcatool. Also it wasn't a v4, I had thought that v4 meant version 4 not 4 ports which I didn't need. So it was $125 for a single port version.

Also, I was wondering does the 510 allow you to get the line stats and everything like the home and pro does?

Is there any benefit to going with the old home/pro over the new 510?

Thanks.

I'm trying to get a hold of this modem too. Unfortunately they told me you have to be a subscriber to Magma to purchase from them. My provider is offering the 510, but with a single port, for 199, which is a lot more expensive. Is anyone offering the 510 with the 4 ports? and is there a place to purchase the modem (either one) for a good price like Magma where you don't have to be a subscriber?

Thanks.

Maybe try some of the local newsgroups like tor.forsale or ont.forsale.

Yeah I've looked at ebay but there's none in Canada. There's one in Pennsylvania but I don't like taking chances with ebay unless it's local and I can do a pick up.

Cheaper than Primus, but more expensive than Magma's price.

The SpeedStream 5200 will also serve as a PPPoE router. Mine has been reliable they should be pretty easy to find everywhere.

I just signed up with Magma but it seems their supply of Alcatel Speedtouch 510 has dried up and there's no guarantee they will selling it again in the future. Is there anyone else in Ontario that sells this modem? I know about Primus already but $170 is steep compared to Magma's $110 (if they had any). Mostly I'm looking for a good modem that will also do the PPPoE authentication. The only other one I'm aware of is the Gnet BB00060 but that one has a flakey reputation at best.
