Re: wow going to shiz

well... it could be in the NIC card or perhaps settings on the computer. I only say this because of the fact i live in Naperville, same town and only a couple miles away from Goober. He gets 3.4mbps and i get 4.5mbps. I was ... infact gettign 3.4 just like he until i put the modem on a differnt computer with a differnt nic card with differnt settings and such for the nic card.

I dont think it is the NIC card. I live in Glendale Heights and have the same problem. I have replaced the NIC card, reformated, changed firewalls, had the tech guys out and still have not reached 4 meg. My signals are fine. When they worked on the network 2 weels ago it helped, I went from 2.8 meg to 3.3 to 3.5 meg. I have talked with one of the vice presidents and he stated some equipment needs to be replaced and that will not be done until the end of January or Febuary.

hey naperville guys, its not your nics,
And you know this for a fact. You went to their houses and tested their machines when they weren't home? It could be a NIC issue with messed up drivers. Its already been stated that part of Naperville is running fine, WOW just has it out for Goober See Profile. I had a machine here in my house that would not hit 4Mbps on the Ultra package, I formatted the drive and installed a fresh copy of XP and all of a sudden the machine hit 4Mbps. I attributed that machine's problem to the fact that I kept using DR. TCP trying to tweak the machine and something became royally messed up. I have not touched that machine with Dr. TCP since and still hit 4Mbps to this day.

hey naperville guys, its not your nics, WOW naperville is just really messed up. I do like WOW's service, although sometimes it takes a while to get things fixed, especially when you are the only one noticing something! I cant ever seem to get above the "invisible cap" @ 3.3 mbps. I am going to start calling every day agian like i was doing before when i had problems. I would advise that you guys do the same and help out everyone who is using the service. The last time i had a problem with the node that i was on, it had a faulty configuration, it took about 10-15 calls and about 8-9 service techs out to my house just for them to realize that the problem was on their end

anyway, just wanna let you guys know, replacing the nic is not gonna give you any improvements, as even old nics operate at 10mbps, and we are only getting 4, no improvement will be made on the WAN end.

Goob, i think it might be something with the computer you are using / the NIC card you have installed.

I have a server set up at my house and the pc that i had being the server before ran the slow speeds with like 3.3mbps down. I though to myself, maybe its a bad nic or what not.

Me being lazy and not wanting to open up the pc to replace the nic i just connected the modem to an old server i used to use, ran a speed test and got the speeds that i have been posting lately, the 4.3mbps down speeds.

So, you might always try running the test on a dif pc with the modem connected to that one and see what you get.

I must be the only loser with Ultra at a sub-4 Mbps download speed.

Nope. Just because I found my problem doesn't mean it's solved. I got the usual response from ZA tech support: Re-install.

The question I asked was "is the current version faster".

Im not sure if you know where this is, but im off of Iriquios and Ogden, right where the odgen mall k-mart is and right by arrowhead park and such places.

Not sure if that helped, but perhaps it did

Yeah, I know where that is. I work just about 1.5 miles from there. My house is probably about 4 miles from yours.

I wish there were other Naperville posting with their Ultra results to see whether it's a location thing.

Yep, I'm on IE. If you're getting the higher speeds, I'm thinking it's got to be my system or its configuration. One of the things I'm going to do is try popping in a new NIC instead of using the on-board one.

By the way, roughly, where are you located? I'm in Buttonwood (the area with the traffic circles) in the court across from the park there. Basically .5 miles southeast of the police station there on Aurora Ave.

what internet browser are u running... i 95% of the time user Opera to browse the net because of features it has, such as pop-up blocker, but anywho it shows lower speeds than what they really are.

So if you are using a dif browser try just using IE, but im sure u are using IE anyways, just a thought

I just figured out my problem!!

Zone Alarm!

Kill ZA off, and wham! Running flat out.

Maybe time to upgrade, but 2.6 has always been great. I tried 3.0 and it was a pig. Maybe time to spring for that upgrade to 4.5.

I don't run ZA, but I have Norton's. Disabling that didn't do squat for me. I'm going to have to take some serious time and slog through some organized troubleshooting.

Technically he is over the cap, which is not uncommon with the java based tests. Our modems on the Ultra service is 4.3Mbps and some change, so your tests are right at the caps while his are over. My modem shows tests doing the same thing, but real world tests show that the actual speed is 4.3Mbps. None the less, its still faster than some competitors.

well, after 11pm I can run at 4mbs.

There may be a chance it's this clunky old PC, but I doubt it. Line quality tests were horrid tonight.

No biggie, it would be nice to download at 450k, but I can live with 390 .

Don't feel bad Goober, I just switched to Ultra tonight, and I'm also not able to sustain over 3.3mbs. I can peak at 4.3, but not run constantly at it.

Gonna try later during non-peak times and see what happens.
