 | FWD and Packet8 will interoperative in December... ...or so I am told.
As soon at the new software image for their DTA is released, the DTA will support more CODECs which in turn will open the door for greater compatibility between the FWD and Packet8 communities.
Hopefully sometime in December we will formally announce the interconnect between FWD and Packet8.
My hope is that something similar is announced with Vonage before the end of the year. |

 | Well that is great to hear. I have a large amount of family that has to pay long distance fees to call me (even though I can actually call them for free so I normally call them back). But this means they will have a good solution through which they can simply call me.
I know of course the obvious question people will ask is why don't you just get yourself a forward phone as well as the Packet8 and the answer is simple, to ruddy expensive and I don't leave my computer on 24*7 but of course my DTA from Packet8 is on all the time. |

 | reply to jeffpulver Jeff what about voicepulse? Voicepulse has interoperability with Asterisk's net so it would seem like an easy matter. Also, would you take any flack if someone built such a gateway. It seems like it would be real easy to set up a gateway between FWD an Asterisks that simply bridged the calls through to Voicepulse? |

 | Well, on Iaxtel.com page it is stated :
"How do I make calls to or receive calls from VoicePulse?
To reach VoicePulse users:
FWD users can dial 1-700-900-0000 followed by the VoicePulse subscriber's 11 digit phone number.
To reach Public Network subscribers, VoicePulse customers can do the following:
To call FWD users, simply dial 1+700+99+five digit FWD number or 1+700+9+six digit FWD number."
But when I try either method all I get is busy signal.
Anybody made this work between VP & FWD ? |

It worked at one time. I can't get it to work anymore though --- either way. |

 | reply to Sasa I've tried to directly interconnect between VoicePulse and FWD and to date I have not committed interest from the VoicePulse team to directly interconnect.
They made reference to their interconnect via Asterisk/IAX and didn't seem committed to doing anything more. |

 | reply to Sasa Sasa,
is it not a codec problem? From what I read on this site, a SIP provider like P8 only uses G.723 and I guess, they do that by limiting their DTA to the use of G.723
May be VoicePulse also enforces a specific codec to save on bandwidth and unless the "non-VoicePulse" caller client has the same codec .... the call does not go through?
Now Broadvox says they will use G.729. This codec is not available on Xten softphone.... I have difficulty to see how this will work for inter-connectivity between SIP providers.
In the case of FWD and P8, how could P8 enforces G.723 for its subscribers and yet accept incoming G.711 traffic form FWD? Is codec negotiation between end point SIP clients policed by the SIP proxy's ?

 | In theory Packet8 will support the variations of G.711 in the very near future. I can't account for the other service providers.
On FWD I encourage the use of no compression and higher fidelity codecs whenever possible... |

T @mo24.xx.127.xx.chart | This is awesome! This is the piece of the puzzle that has been missing from Packet8!
I can't wait to hear what you have to say at the Conference tomorrow. |

Just one word of advise, countries like Brazil and others, as in Caribbean sell most of the time a "broadband light" DSL/Cable. In Brazil, from what I understand, until this year the DSL from Telemar was capped at 256kbps downstream and I assume 128kbps upstream. So I saw in other countries (Caribbean-wide as one example). My experience with Packet8 and G.723 kind of surprised me in terms of quality. Also, I assume as more vendors use 'add-ons' like GIPS and etc, the non-G.711 codecs will become feasible. (In Brazil, BTW, 1xRTT and others also are seem as broadband options for home users...) BTW: Good to hear about Packet8 x FWD |

|
 | We don't have any formal interconnect in place with Voicepulse...so you need to navigate by dialing into IAX... |
