 | [wireless] WRT54G and WPA problems! Hello,
I'm wondering if anyone can help shed some light on this. I'm using a WRT54G with WPA PSK for encryption/authentication. I've followed all of the setup guides and am running the latest firmware on my Linksys box. I've also applied Microsoft's roll-up patch for WinXP to fix issues with 802.1x. When my machine boots, I have network connectivity for about 3 minutes. Then, I am unable to communicate with the gateway until I reauthenticate (an option on my Aironet Client utility) or wait about 3-4 minutes.
This does not happen when I use WEP. Any ideas? Is it another firmware issue?
Thanks! |

I use the windows's Zero config program, if that helps. Thanks |

 | The option to enable/disable 802.1x is locked in the enabled position with WPA. |

I've recently had a similar problem with the WRT54G and WMP54G. I applied the Wireless Update RollUp Package »Wireless Update Rollup Package for Windows XP , and upgraded the WMP54G notebook adapter driver, which didn't solve my problem. I see that the Wireless Router has had 2 firmware upgrades in the last month since I got it »www.linksys.com/download/vertxt/···_ver.txt (I'm still using v1.41.2) - but I want to try that last. Over the weekend I started trying different settings for the 802.1x authentication, and found the settings in the attached picture to be the most reliable. I think that UNchecking the "Validate Server Certificate" and "Use a different username for the connection" helped the most. I'm guessing that since I use the same username "Dad" on both my laptop and desktop computer which are part of the same LAN, maybe it was causing conflicts ?? |

| reply to purduecoz Something else I discovered with the WMP54G - when I downloaded the newest driver it also installed an "Odyssey Network Services" Network Component Service which can be seen in my wireless network card properties box, and a Linksys Wireless-G Notebook Adapter Utility. At some point when trying to use that utility instead of the WinXP Wireless Zero Config Utility, I entered my 34 digit passphrase, and it gave me an error message that said I need to use 8-32 digits. But the router has accepted my 34 digit passphrase all along. So I've since shortened my passphrase by 2 digits. |

Smart Card or Other Certificate. PEAP has a slightly different properties dialog box. |

That's possible. When I first installed the driver update I didn't physically remove my card from my notebook like it recommended - I just disabled it and it installed a couple of WAN drivers and miniports in my network adapters in the hardware device manager. The device manager showed errors with 2 of the adapters, that I beleive showed it couldn't load the drivers and the Driver Provider was Funk Software, which is the supplicant for 98 & ME. It took a system restore to get that mess out. I re-installed a second time, and the extra adapters in the device manager didn't install.
I've since unchecked Odyssey and it doesn't appear to have an effect on my connection. |

 | reply to purduecoz I just switched to PEAP, ejected my card and re-inserted and so far so good. "Validate Server Certificate" is NOT checked. I'll try it this way for a while to see if this makes a difference. |
|
 | reply to MyTechLife I would go further uninstall odssesy completely unnecessary for xp . Make sure you have wireless rollout(not sure if supplicant is included in that update)if not get it(the supplicant for wpa)then update router and card:) |
