Is it fair to charge more in more affluent areas than it is in areas where the average income is low?
e.g Should Mike in his Condo in CA be charged more than Mole in his Shack in PA?

It's a MUD HUT darn it....get it right!
To get it back on topic (again), see my post above, in which I plagiarized Hicker2x, (who did the actual legwork), Adelphia's service is priced within 5% of EVERY OTHER MSO out there...Not the Most expensive, but not the cheapest either...If it no longer suits your needs/desires/requirements, then it becomes a personal choice.

| reply to jagged You know, the whole call center outsourcing fad will end as soon as companies remember that anybody who faces the customer (by phone, email, etc.) is projecting an image of the company that will make a stronger impression than any ad. Call center employees need to care about the company, the product and the customer. I don't see that happening right now at AMEX, HP, Dell, and few other places that I deal with.
The flip side is that people seem to be more rude these days. When I worked tech support back in the '80s, the customers I talked to were professional, polite and civil. These days, I hear more stories from support people about rude louts who can't figure out that the wide blade on the plug goes into the wide slot in the socket. |

| reply to mike90069 As I'm sitting here, I have some questions for those in the northeast..
Is it 12 inches of snow today, or 18? Will the high temperature break the freezing mark....or will you be able to store meat on the sidewalk? Doesn't snow look "real perty" after a few days of automobile exhaust turns it a loverly shade of brown? How much does it cost you to repair your car from the damage caused by salted streets? I haven't turned the heat on in my condo in 5 years....why don't you try doing the same.
And, at the local Ralphs....a 2 liter of coke is 79cents....and my electric bill last month was $32.
But please help...should I go to the beach today? Decisions, decisions! |

| reply to mike90069 Adelphia, Tyson adding dozens of jobs in Buffalo 12/6/2003
Adelphia Communications and Tyson Foods said in separate announcements that they're adding dozens of jobs in Buffalo, adding meat to an economy that has been hit recently by corporate downsizing. --------------
Tyson will make more hot dogs at its food processing plant on Perry Street next year, generating an undetermined number of jobs. -----------------
And Adelphia will add 35 jobs at its call center on the city's waterfront as it closes locations elsewhere, company officials announced Friday. -------------------------
Adelphia preserved its call centers here because of their high productivity, said David Fraas, vice president of national call centers. Ninety percent of costs are connected to personnel, making productivity a key advantage. Customer service representatives earn starting wages of $10 an hour, he said. --------------------
Tyson's meat processing plant on Perry Street has more than 500 jobs. Hiring will probably begin next spring, as production gears up for the cookout season. Tyson workers here make about $11 an hour plus benefits on average, Nicholson said. ------------------------------------------------------------
Guess it pays more to "stuff wieners" than to be a tech rep. At least at Tyson, a person could get back "ON A ROLL" again. (ba-rummp, bump)
I know how Adelphia can get rid of only TWO people and save FORTY MILLION dollars. |

Back on topic, Adelphia's pricing is within 5% of every other MSO out there, it's not the most expensive, but it's not the cheapest either.
I Borrow from Hickerx2 this from Page 4 of this thread: *********************************************************** To be fair, after posting in several other MSO's forums, I've reached the conclusion that Adelphia's prices are pretty much in line with everybody else's.
I didn't see more than a $10 difference between any of them. Not a scientific study, but effective.
I still think it's ridiculous, but no more ridiculous than anybody else's rates. ***********************************************************

That's not the Californian in me talking, that's my religious beliefs and my concern for my health speaking. 1 edit | reply to mike90069 I just Love this post, really, I do....
said by mike90069 : If I had a balcony, I could install a dish no matter what the associations CCR's mandate. Without a balcony, installation is next to impossible in individual units. As this complex forbids alterations to exteriors (a common CCR), it is impossible.
The association has indicated it plans to install directv complex wide.
How much is the Rent at this Lovely Condo, where you can't modify your own home without someone elses permission and approval. You probably wouldn't even be free to smoke a ciggarette/Cigar/Pipe on that balcony if you wanted to.
I pay 400 a month for a 3br house and 2 acres of land. I can build MY OWN balcony, heck, I could paint it DayGlo Orange if I so desired. Gas is a $1.60 a gallon, drinks are 2 bucks a piece, I heat my house with Wood which grows on the 2 acres of land I have. I will be buying this place for 24K early next year. (try THAT in SoCal, 2 acres land and a 3BR house for 24K), I can smoke a ciggarette without some nosy dogooder getting in my face. I get Fresh eggs from my Neighbor, and I can eat all the meat I desire, even Deer and Elk without PETA throwing a guilt trip in my direction!
The cost of living is so rediculous in SoCal, and the intrusion into YOUR life is so obscene, It baffles me why anyone would even tolerate it.

| reply to ashakouri1 As far as keeping Adelphia powerlink and getting satellite goes you really get a screwing there. I checked on that and if you don't have cable tv with your powerlink then the ISP alone goes up to like $58 or $62(cant remember which) a month then add on your Dish bill and you are paying more for both services. A lose lose situation if powerlink is your only option for high speed because satellite ISP is ridiculous in cost. |

| reply to rains81 Well as far as them saying the reason for the price hike is rebuilding, my system was rebuilt over a year ago and I think we had a price hike then to. It must be that they are still trying to catch up from the corporate scandal that that happened a few years back. I drop there super duper advantage deal cause it was going up to 130 bucks from like 112 and kept my boxes for 92 bucks a month. Least that way we can still watch PPV if we choose and have the online guide. |
