Re: Is Rhythms shutdown imminent?

I hear the plan on shutting down many locations. Big locations will stay up. WHat this does is they can cut their workforce in half save money and have the ISP's pay them money for the service

We were apparently one of the lucky few, that happy band of brothers, who were only down a couple of weeks between NorthPoint and Rhythms. While we were down, our ISP provided us with a dialup alternative. Not fast, but at least we could get our email.

Now, I am seeing a wide range of speed readings (from the DSLreports.com and MSN bandwidth meters). Our connect went as slow as 14 kps yesterday. Tech support at our ISP says that Rhythms is "is having capacity problems with taking over all of the NorthPoint connections and is in the process of adding additional DS3 capacity. This problem should fix itself real soon." We will see....

Meanwhile, I am keeping an eye out for alternatives if Rhythms goes belly up. Maybe I can talk the bosses into Sprint Broadband Direct?

From what I am hearing, Rhythms is in such disarray that it is floundering at the edge of total inability to provide service. Apparently, thousands of customers are without service, including hundreds of people in the California Bay Area who thought they were having their NP circuits switched...but Rhythms is simply unable to accommodate them (I being among this unlucky and growing group).
What I am hearing is that they made such deep cuts in their staff to save money that they simply cannot provide service to their existing customers, let alone the new ones they have promised to provision.
Worse, they are lying to the ISP's who are depending upon them, making promises they cannot keep and simply refusing to return phone calls from the ISP reps when the promised service does not happen. Unfortunately, Rhythms is very likely to take some good ISP's down with them when they go.
If I had any Rhythms stock (if its indeed still on the market) I would unload it NOW....I am having cable installed in two days and have pretty much given up on getting DSL back. Too bad!
