| How about »www.apache.org/. Almost two thirds of the net seems to prefer using it: »news.netcraft.com/archives/web_s···vey.html
Setup isn't entirely trivial, but then again its not that hard once you know what you're doing. -- Ok...I'm outta flames at the moment, so just go back and re-read all the other flames from your other posts... -- =\ coma

Smoothwall might be an alternative, but you are probably better of figuring out why networking no longer works.

Isn't it based on Linux? I saw it listed on linuxiso.org so I figured it was.

| I think this comment from netcraft is very funny:
quote: During 2001 and the first half of 2002 several companies hosting very large numbers of hostnames including Webjump, Namezero, Homestead, register.com and Network Solutions migrated to Microsoft-IIS.
Subsequently these businesses have either failed, significantly changed their business model, or reverted to their previous platform, and Microsoft-IIS share is now in line with its long term pre-summer 2001 level of around 20%.
(my emphasis). | |

| Re: Best Server Software??? Apache is too hard for me to maintain and set up. I want something easy.
E-smith is Nix based, but the interface sucks and I really have no clue why it isn't working.
I posed on the e-smith board site twice with no resolutions posted in reply..

Must have all thought Apache was too complex (right) to operate, and was taking them too much money, so they spent all their money switching back to IIS and just went belly up.
The ones who survived are now scurrying along now and barely keep up with those who chose to run Apache.

| Re: Best Server Software??? or maybe microsoft approached them with a deal, "too good to pass up", in order to boost IIS mindshare, and they ignored the moans from their sysadmin guys and went with it. And their sysadmin guys left or could not provide the kind of stability that they wanted.
just a theory. | |
