Hong Kong is a former British territory. Great Britain relinquished control in 1997.

Great, you burst my bubble how? Millions of people still immigrate to the U.S., fact.

International student visa have been restricted over the past two years attributing to the reduction of international student enrollment.

"A new study says the number of foreign students attending U.S. colleges increased by less than 1 percent in 2002-03 -- the lowest growth rate in seven years. It's just the latest piece of evidence that international students are shying away from the United States because of tough immigration rules."

Also in the article,

"Foreign students started experiencing delays entering the country in the wake of the terrorist attacks on Washington and New York, as the federal government responded to calls for tighter domestic security. One of the September 11 hijackers held a student visa."

Yes, enrollment has a retarded growth, but it has not decreased as you claim.

DV-2004 results (Which shows the Green Card lottery stats for 2002) shows that there were 7.3 million applicants plus 2.9 million other applications that were tossed for various reasons. (»travel.state.gov/dv2004results.html ) This is an increase from DV-2003 (2001 Stats) which was at around 6.5 million applications (»www.us-immigration.org/results.htm ). So again, the numbers you offered contradict my (limited) research.

Hmmm, I wonder if 9/11 had anything to do with that?

That's pure crap, but than again it's Japan. It will be 40 years down the road before I see anything like that coming around to my neighborhood due to captalistic america. Also wtf is up with not being able to copy anything? There will always be ways. If I pay for it, and it comes into my living room, I am allowed to copy it for my personal use.

Screw'em
[Rant Off]

Its in america already. if you are in a Qwest area you could have gotten their version of video over DSL. unfortunately Qwest has scrapped further deployment of its VDSL service.

hate to break your bubble
immigration to the us is down
especially from international students on which universities depend to pay higher fees so their programs can survive. UK, Canada and Germany are registering 30% increases over the last year of new international students.
even the green card lottery saw a plunge of around 40% from 13 million to just 8.4

also many who come here, come to work, save money and then go home

Holland -

"Real GDP growth in the first quarter of 2001 was -0.2% in 2001 and -1.2% in 2002. Tortal consumer expenditure is declining, investment in fixed assets is negative, and the inflation rate is 2.0% or 2.1%."

Netherlands -

"Economic growth Q3 in 2003: -1.1%

In the third quarter of 2003 the Dutch economy saw a negative growth of 1.1% compared to the same quarter of 2002. The decrease in volume of the gross domestic product (GDP) is almost equal to the decrease in the second quarter. After adjustments for seasonal and calendar effects, third quarter GDP increased by 0.1% on the second quarter."

Sweden -

"The Government was successful in its objective of halving open unemployment to 4% by the end of 2000. However, the figure rose above 5% again at the beginning of 2003 due to the unfavourable state of the international economy."

And about the great health?

"An ever-growing problem is the steep rise in the numbers of people with long-term illnesses (currently more than 5% of the workforce), which puts a burden on state coffers while undermining the successes attained in combating unemployment."

Odd that, Sweden seemed to be doing fairly well as we Holland. And the Euro is still valued higher then the dollar.
Not to mention that while economic growth has started again in the US we are still not creating a large number of jobs, except at the bottom. (»money.cnn.com/2003/10/30/news/economy/gdp/)

Immigrants are coming to the United States is from where? And yes, many, many are moving to other countries as well.

And this isn't about socialism though just pointing out that our government by comparison is small.

More pure then ours? You mean Censorship and Oppression?
Almost all of the newspaper and television reporters in Hong Kong who remotly questioned the party or the government where forced out by government appointed editors.

As I have said before, and will say again, governmental systems != economic systems. But to the point, yes Hong Kong is losing more and more freedoms and will eventually no longer be a symbol for capitalistic prosperity. At one point Hong Kong was one of the most successful economies in the world, being only 23 square miles. That is quite a feat...

And as for our over-grown federal government uhmmm, it isn't by any means over-grown, just take a look at Western Europe where the government regulates everything from education to housing. Oh and Economicly they are kicking our butts right now. Something to do with an educated work force who are in decent health and have job security or something...

I'm sorry, did I miss the part where the E.U. economy is better off than ours?

"Unless Europe quickly learns to innovate and adopt new technologies, its standard of living will fall ever further behind the US, the European Commission has warned. " »news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/1670599.stm

"The European Union's economic growth has slowed to zero, new data indicated Thursday, fuelling fears of a slide towards recession, already confirmed in EU heavyweight Germany."

Hmm, I guess that is why millions (»www.census.gov/prod/2003pubs/p20-539.pdf) still migrate to the U.S. every year.

God, it sucks to live in America. Just keep repeating the socialist credo to yourself...

Haha, capitalistic America? Lol, what the hell do you think Hong Kong is?
Their form of capitalism is, in fact, more pure than ours. But go on hating America, it is the socially acceptable thing to do nowadays.
You should blame our over-grown federal government for our nation's failings... not the economic system.
