My neighbor told me he has WOW cable and I have Comcast and he said he gets free cable TV because he has an internet connection. Doesn't WOW use some kind of filter system so this can't happen? I know Comcast uses one. |

| They are supposed to put a trap on the line for internet only people which will block out all tv services while allowing the modem to work. He also could have a package that has tv included(WOW has packages that cost the same for tv+internet vs. internet only) and he may have one of those packages but does not actually pay attention to his bill to notice it. Otherwise if he really does have internet only and is getting tv for free, someone at WOW screwed up, he just may want to notify them so that he won't be charged with theft of services. |

1 edit | reply to Cable pal In Schaumburg, IL WOW! does use a filter to block TV channels. They did not have one on my line after my initial Internet only install which was nice. I was able to check out the channel lineup to see if I liked what WOW offered. They must have done an audit a few weeks later as there is now a filter on my line. That does not matter though as I will soon be getting DirecTV after three years without it. Better picture and better selection at a reasonable price. |

Do we have a WOW informant on our hands? , JK. I would also advise not to say anything else. |

| reply to Cable pal WOW Internet in Arlington Heights/Mount Prospect sucks pretty bad. In August there were problems, went away after a month. Now, there's major lag spikes, completely random, been happening for about 1 1/2 months. If comcast was $40 a month (internet only) I'd switch instantly. |

I take you have not seen their forum lately. IL right now sucks big time for Comcast. |

A couple days ago, a WOW tech came by and put on a trap. I KID YOU NOT! That's the last time I ever talk about stuff like that on here... |

| LOL... hmmm, maybe WOW actually does monitor these forums. Do you have the same e-mail address as your moniker for this site? If so, thats probably how they nabbed you if they did it off of monitoring this forum, otherwise, they just did a large audit to make sure unused ports are terminated to reduce noise in the plant and to trap out people who were getting free tv. But that sure does suck, you hexed yourself. |

| I am extremely confident that there are WOW employees that at least lurk here (if one wants to equate lurk to monitor, then so be it).
While I don't want to turn this thread into a 47 U.S.C. § 553 debate, if one is using basic cable service based on coincidental availability of CATV signals due to Internet Only service, at least consider paying the $25 per month difference in the plan rates if you're enjoying basic cable. |

Well besides lurking and monitoring, they should be active here and resolve problems that customers have. Especially the current Ultra internet and HDTV combo billing issue. |

Yes I do, that's exactly what I was thinking. So to the WOW employee(s) that turned me in, you get a nice big middle finger! I only had it hooked to the TV tuner in my computer so I could watch the local access channels once in a blue moon. If they wouldn't have let it go for 1 1/2 years, I wouldn't be as mad. But now, screw them. I'll sign up with Comcast for local TV service before I'll pay WOW one penny for TV. |

You might be better off using rabbit ears before Comcast for local stations.
It might not even been from lurking in this forum. WOW may have done a standard audit and you were caught that way. |

I mean local access stations. It would be nice if those came OTA, but they don't. I have DirecTV for locals. |

They screwed up, and I took advantage of the situation. I know they have every right to do what they did, I'm not arguing that at all. I just watched 2 freaking channels, very infrequently. I didn't even have the other channels added onto the list in WinTV, since I use DirecTV for everything else. Oh well. |
