| [Tweak Test] Don't get it! All looks well but Speed tests suck!

I have had the second cable "tech" here at my house testing my system and he says all is fine with my line and modem. He tested using NetFlare and said my down was 3100 and up was 244 and the line was "clean". Why then do I get such varying speed tests withmy premium account here at dslreports. He said that those are not "accurate" and said you can't believe them. What do you all think? |

What speed test are you using? I'd imagine »atl.speakeasy.net is the closest and most appropriate one for you.
They should be used to make sure your connection is optimized and not as an indication of anything else. Your speed can change 100 times in a 100 runs all out of your control. It's based on your connection of course, the route your requests and responses take to the server, the equipment it goes through, the size of the lines (pipes) it goes through, the load on the server, etc.
Your tweaks look fine... what is varying so much? -- Have you tweaked your OOL connection? |

I think he is full of baloney. BBR has the most accurate tests of the several hundred I have tried. Comes within a few bytes of what I get on Sprint's FTP test. -- Join BroadbandReports.com Team Starfire SETI@Home Put your unused clock cycles to work! Tour de Seti racers are "baggers"!! |

Tried that one and actually scored higher (2500!) on one but then it slowed down again to 1700 and then to 742. That is how it does all the time. One fast and 4-5 slow and then one fast. The HIGHEST I have ever scored is 2900 and only once. Just my speeds vary greatly. |

| My guess then is it's more associated to your path to the server.
Open a DOS Command prompt window and type:
tracert atl.speakeasy.net
and copy/paste the output here. It might help us identify where along the way the slowdown is occurring. -- Have you tweaked your OOL connection? |

| That looks pretty good. Run it a few times and see if any of the numbers jumps up high or shows an * (except for line 8 which will always show 3 *'s). -- Have you tweaked your OOL connection? |
