Problems Installing RASPPPOE in W2K Adv Server

I am having problems Installing RASPPPOE v098B on My Windows 200 Advanced Server System. The system had 2 NIC's (3COM and SMC, it acts as a router among other things) I am using the SMC NIC to connect to the DSL modem.

When attempting to install I first of all get a problem where my Network protocol list is empty after the RASPPPOE install. After a reboot the protocol list is back with RASPPPOE and no others enabled.

If I try to run RASPPPOE.exe it reports that it 'Could not find any dial-up devices...'

If I check the WAN Miniport (PPP over Ethernet Protocol) Device in the Device manager it is disabled. If I try to enable it then the OS gets stuck in an endless loop reporting that the driver installation failed due to a missing file.

I know that the Modem and the cat5 cable are functioning correctly as I have successfully installed RASPPPOE on my Windows 2000 Professional system.

Has anybody come across this problem before?

Is it possible to install RASPPPOE on a Windows 2000 server system?

Steve

As told to you oon another forum you need to remove the second Ethernet card before installation.

Hi Bob,

You are everywhere!

I have tried physically removing the network card and re-installing and I still have the same problem.

The WAN Miniport (PPP over Ethernet Protocol) Device is disabled, and if I try to enable it the W2k Hardware Manager reports that it cannot find the file specified....

any ideas??

Steve

After uninstalling the card you need to reinstall RASPPPoE, not just enable the device.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for the prompt Feedback to my questions.

After several re-installs of RASPPPoE I gave up and obtained a copy of WinPoet which then seemed to suffer from similar problems.

After many frustrating hours I decided to cut my losses and Installed a clean copy of W2K advanced server on a spare Hard Disk and I now have RASPPPOE working, yay

I now have to try and configure my system to share the connection on my network.

Previously with my cable modem I used NAT to route all the TCP/IP traffic to the cable modem.

Will I be able to do this with RASPPPOE? I have read a few posts on using ICS but I would like to have the control provided by W2K's NAT routing interfaces.

Sharing works just fine with PPPoE. I have instructions for all of that at my site where you posted this question originally.

Do you really? I could only find an article on ICS on Windows 2000 Professional systems. I could not find anything on setting up routing with NAT on Windows 2000 servers.

Could you give me the link to the said article.

Hi everybody!

I have tried installing raspppoe on 3 different Windows 2000 Advanced Server installations and I have gotten the same error message:

"Could not install requested components. Error is 0x800700C1"

The last install was fresh with one NIC. I tried with both SP4 and without SP4.

Any recommendations?

Thanx.
