I'm currently renting a SB4220 from Comcast...with the 3MB upgrade coming would there be any advantage to buying a SB5100 or similar newer modem? |

You won't need a new modem until DOCSIS 2.0 is implemented. That won't happen for some time, so don't worry.

You'd pretty much be throwing your money away. |

I recently bought a SB5100 to replace my rented modem. I was paying $3/month to rent, so for me, after ~ 2 years the SB5100 is paid for. After that time it is free money.
The SB5100 has been on sale recently, Circuit City and other places, mail-in rebate.
You won't see any speed difference with the SB5100, as others have mentioned. -- ~ Jay |
