Oh, and embedding for any sort of flash movie is now allowed. Justin succumbed to the pressure to allow embed code, so we can have all these wonderful flash videos taking up CPU resources and slowing down my browsing.
It can easily be abused by embedding any flash that isn't from a video site: »aurange faceeeee This leads to annoying auto-play videos and crap like that.
The worst part? I predicted this exact thing would happen a year ago. | posted Monday November 17th, @10:46PM

Old news, but I forgot to post about it.
Alexsocqueer2 came back as "Sir Bentley", and made it way too obvious that it was the same person. Jake25 tried to cover up for him. It took a couple weeks but that account was banned also.
We can expect to see Alex back within two weeks, I suspect. | posted Sunday June 15th, @04:22PM

You know, The Hot Deals forum is pretty much useless now.
It used to be a place where people could post a good deal and give their opinion on the product, and usually a few other people would respond with their own experiences. A great deal would stay on the main page for a while and garner a lot of discussion.
Lately though, one user has overrun the entire forum by reposting every single "deal" he sees on slickdeals or fatwallet.
He gives no personal opinion in any topics, he just copies and pastes the product description and includes a picture. 33 of the last 50 (82%) topics were made by him, nearly 10-15 a day.
The obvious solution is to add him to my ignore list, but that won't work. Because he copies and pastes these deals early in the morning (6 AM-8AM the last couple days), people will rarely beat him to posting the deals that are actually worth attention. However, I can't tell which deals are good because all of his dozens of mediocre deal topics swamp the forum and buries his good ones 50 topics deep in 2 days.
Even if I did ignore him, few other people will. The topics that would appear second or third in the forum to me would already be 30 topics deep to other people, and they won't see them. If they don't see them they won't post, and the whole forum dies. Even if someone did post to revive a good deal that was posted, it doesn't matter because that forum sorts topics by creation date, not last post. Less than half of the first 50 topics in there have any replies at all. There is no reason to read that forum any more when I can go to slickdeals to view an almost identical list of deals.
Let's hope he gets bored of this after a while because the forum is in a deadlock right now. | posted Friday November 30th, @01:37PM

Heh, nullzilla/photog got banned again a couple days ago. This is the second time. It doesn't seem that the mods care if he creates another account, so I'm sure we'll see him again.

I forgot to mention that I put my dslr tools page back online. It had been offline for a few months because I had some hosting problems.
I tested all of them and the only one that doesn't work is the spell checker. Also, the greasemonkey extensions look to be obsolete now.
Some day I might get around to making some more utilities. I was working on one greasemonkey script to add custom emoticons to the default list, but It's tough when you're trying to learn javascript at the same time. Really, I had it practically completed but ran into a problem I couldn't solve right at the end. When I get the time and ambition again, I'll probably find someone here who knows javascript and see if they can help me out. | posted Saturday July 28th, @03:24PM

I've practically stopped updating this again. It's becoming pointless to talk about site changes because state has been keeping an excellent log of feature updates here, a list which was rarely updated in the past. justin also launched a new site blog here recently, which looks like it will keep members updated on the inner-workings of the site, as well as new features.
So for now, this journal is defunct. I might updated it sporadically if there is something regarding dslr that wouldn't be discussed at either of those sources. | posted Friday July 20th, @11:31PM

The thumbs up/down function for anonymous posts was finally fixed. It's been working the wrong way since thumbs downs were done away with (before I was a member). It used to erroneously display a thumbs up to the anon poster when they got a thumbs down.
