maybe that news ticker thing I posted about yesterday was a leadup to this. A new news ticker
It's real nice, doesn't even make you refresh to see the next news item. When it was turned on for me though, it appeared at the top AND bottom. once I configured it to either the top or bottom, I can't make it appear at both positions again.

I usually don't notice things at the bottom of the page, so I could be way behind on this. The news ticker toggle is now at the bottom of the page. Of course, the news ticker doesn't work at all for me because justin seems to hate everyone using the endeffect theme...
also, it says "Sixth year online!"

It's been a while since I posted. I guess because there really isn't much to post.
I did notice today that »General Distributed Computing is on my private forum list. I don't know when that showed up, I don't remember the last time I checked that list
EDIT: wait a second, why is that listed under old forums? Have we stopped the smaller distributed computing projects or something?

Also, I checked the chatbox tonight for the first time in 6 months or so. I still can't use it. I have no clue why, it's only specific to this account. I must have been banned for some reason or another.

An interesting new feature for users of the mail system:
»Changes / Updates
quote:
Introduced "grey-listing"
Grey-listing tells newly seen emailers to "retry". They are not whitelisted until they come back with the same request 300 or more seconds later. Spam delivery programs do not usually retry as it is expensive in cpu and disk for them to do so when they are delivering thousands of emails a minute. This should dramatically reduce the amount of spam.

check out the graph of mail recieved (supposedly all spam)

An awesome new feature: search all posts by a member in a forum
»Advanced Search
»new ---- search by member by forum
unfortunatly, it isn't working for me. I'm getting 502 errors every time I try.
I'll post again when it's working
EDIT: only 'search recent' works, which kind of defeats the purpose...

And by the way, as of 2005-12-11 19:31:47, DSLReports has 1.5 million posts

This google map thing is getting pretty big, there are over 2000 pins in the map I mentioned in the last post now.
Justin added some different maps now:
»/gmaps
There is also a new side bar item for the maps and you can see if a user has a pin in a map by viewing their profile.

It seems I've been missing a lot of important stuff lately!
first of all, Broadbandreports.com is officially dead
read: »Site FAQ »Broadbandreports.com vs dslreports.com
»Farewell to Broadbandreports.com
thats good news
I guess my greasemonkey extension to redirect to dslr or bbr is officially dead.

And I just found this out, there is a topic points system...
»/topicpts/8747650 (my journal)
EDIT: thread: »Front page bug?
EDIT2: bookmarklet:
javascript:window.location.href = window.location.href.replace("/forum/remark,","/topicpts/")

just make that into a bookmark, go to any thread and then load the bookmark
