[HELP] Cisco 678 on MSN DSL

I'm trying to replace an MSN DSL 1000 (Accton) with a Cisco 678 with CBOS 2.4.7 and configured for DMT on a Qwest CO in Seattle. But using MSN's key1 and key2 for 678 username and password doesn't work. The 678 shows WAN link, circuit trained for 640/256K, excellent SNR, and dynamically-assigned outside IP address. But it can't get DNS info and therefore has no Internet connectivity. Is MSN using an additional/different authentication method (maybe CHAP)? Can I configure the 678 to authenticate properly on an MSN DSL connection? Any hints appreciated.

for some reason u cant get any traffic from msn without NAT turned on. also your vpi/vci has to be 0 and 32

hope that will solve your problem. if not I will dig up the info I found that fixed my problem

DH, Thanks for the note. Those two parameters are indeed correct, so the problem is somewhere else.

MSN DSL is PPPoE and the 678 is PPP and does not support PPPoE so you need to set it up as Bridge and have some thing to dial in to the ISP.
In my case I have 678(Bridge Mode)---->SonicWall(PPPoE)---->LAN

Thanks for the note, but I'm still confused. The 678 did work OK for about 3 weeks on this circuit several months ago before failing to authenticate. Did MSN recently change from PPP to PPPoE?

Not sure but as far as I know the router/modem they sent was preconfig to dial in so I will asume PPPoE

Qwest doesn't use PPPoE for encapsulation, its PPPoA... it almost sounds like your wan username/password stuff isn't setup right in the config file

That must be now but as far as I know it was PPP because the Cisco 678 does not support PPPoA and they use it as one of there primary business modem....
Dont know about it now though....

here is the configuration that finally got me goin with my 678 and msn

set nvram erase
set password exec (whatever password u desire)
write
set ppp wan0-0 dns 0.0.0.0
set ppp wan0-0 ipcp 0.0.0.0
set ppp wan0-0 login (keycode1@msndsl.net here)
set ppp wan0-0 password (keycode2 here)
set dhcp server enable
set nate enable
set int wan0-0 close
set int wan0-0 vpi 0
set int wan0-0 vci 32
set int wan0-0 open
write
reboot

set nat entry delete all
set nat entry add 10.0.0.2 1-22 0.0.0.0 1-22 tcp
set nat entry add 10.0.0.2 1-22 0.0.0.0 1-22 udp
set nat entry add 10.0.0.2 24-65535 0.0.0.0 24-65535 tcp
set nat entry add 10.0.0.2 24-65535 0.0.0.0 24-65535 udp
write
reboot

I set my nat to forward all ports except 23
I then use the nat in my router to control what ports are open and where they can go.

I worked on my 678 for a month before I finally got it to work with the help of a couple posts by Traek that gave me these settings.

hopefully this will help ya

Thank you dh_supreme See Profile for your config. I am sure you would like to know it has been turned into a FAQ which may be found here:
