I switched to Dish Network and just love it! Their PVR is very nice also. Not as good as TiVo but it works well. I'll never ever go back to Adelphia. When I left they had ADS on the blasted menu!! Good riddance!

Eh... I installed (love them double drip loops to boot) a sat. before, but for connection.
I saw DirectTV was offering DVR unit's for free when you signup! Get two reaceivers (perfect for us).
Top it off with I get more channels than now.
Problem is.. switch and Power Link goes up a ways in price. So is it really worth the switch? I guess that's subjective depending on if you want more channels for about the same price as Adel. offering (CATV) wise... and if you don't mind paying more for Adel's Power Link service.
For now.. I'm staying put as is. I would like to see a DVR offering (with that lovely DVD-Burner as part of the unit!) sooner than later offered up by Adelphia in my area!

Actually Buffalo is the largest of the call centers. Over 300 agents work in the Buffalo center alone. |

It's so much better that Digital Cable, both in terms of price, choices and quality, we get 18 locals on Directv, all clear and digital, on Adelphia, it's only 8 snowy, fuzzy ones, plus, we get network feeds from LA and NYC, and DVR, things not availabe from Adelphia here. I love my Powerlink, but for tv, Directv rocks! I hope that helps, sorry I was so slow in responding

That's it man. I am just waiting for my month free to finish and switch to satellite. My neighbor had the directv dish, and he invited to check it out. It looks nice, so I leaning towards that direction.
He also told me that me that out local phone company told him that DSL ($29.99) is up and active in our area. So, I might do a complete swith here. Believe me, I have not problems with Adelphia as a service provider, but the prices are killing me. |

I'll be completely honest with you here......after experiencing DirecTV, I would NEVER go back to cable again. All the channels are very clear and have a nice digital picture. As for HDTV service, they do have it, but it only carries about 10 channels right now. The equipment for it is also about $400. However, all the regular channels do carry a great picture and if you purchase a receiver with a dolby digital output for your home theater, many of the channels carry the Dolby Digital signal. For the price I pay for their package, they carry more channels than Adelphia does. One channel they have that Adelphia does not is Trio and also Oxygen. I like Trio because it often carries some old shows other channels don't.
I can tell you you will not be disappointed with the switch as long as you have a professional installer. My service only goes out when it rains hard, and it will come back on within 2 minutes in most cases. I have never been down for more than 5. |

One more thing, does directv carry the same channels as Adelphia?

I'm not ILOVELA2, but I do have a similar situation to him. I subscribe to DirecTV for tv service and Powerlink for my internet. I currently pay $88 a month for the top DirecTV package and 3 receivers, while I pay 51.95 a month for only Powerlink. As of January 1, there will be an increase of Powerlink pricing here to #54.95 a month, if you own a modem and $57.95 a month if you lease theirs. I think their pricing is getting a little high, but there is nothing in this area that offers the same kind of speeds for that price right now, so I am willing to pay it. |

How much are you paying for Powerlink alone in your area. I am planning to do the same thing as you... PowerLink and Satellite TV service.
And if you dont mind me asking, how are you paying monthly for the TV/Internet service you have now.
I live in the Northeast area of Los Angeles, and I am serviced by the Eagle Rock office.
By the way, what Satellite package did you get??

There are 3 call centers for Power Link tech support: Colorado Springs, Coudersport, and Buffalo.
There are many more call centers for cable sales, support, and dispatch. These are the ones which are being consolidated over the next several months.
BTW, the surviving call centers are hiring more people to replace the manpower lost in the closing call centers and many in the closing centers are being offered incentives to relocate.

you can do that without satellite, just get freevo or myth tv and a PVR card for an old comp and away you go |

I don't believe hold times have increased for Tech Support, I have no real idea about sales and service calls.
The well publicised Call center consolidation will not take place until next year, so actually blaming that is a little premature.

I just noticed why my local call center number directed me to an 888 number: They integrated the call centers. That also explains why my usual less-than-five-second hold time turned into a 30-minute one, and that was to drop some services. |

Right on! Welcome to the satellite club We have Directv and the DiretvDVR, it's awesome! Crystal Clear channels, including 18 San Francisco/Oakland/San Jose/Santa Rosa locals versus 8 snowy, fuzzy ones with Adelphia. We have Powerlink, but that's our only connection with Adelphia now.

| ...but I wasn't sorry to see it go. I got my DISH Network installed on Saturday. Everything is crystal-clear, including local channels (unlike cable). Being able to go to the "can" and not missing a second of programming (via DVR) is also nice.
When I called to downgrade my Adelphia services to just Power Link, I got the "May I ask why?" My response was, of course, "You're too expensive now." Not one person I've spoken with in this area likes the new "Valuepaks." I just hope they don't increase the price of Power Link any time soon. |
