| [User Review] Microsoft Internet Keyboard
The keyboard in place | Multifunction keys | So what if it's Microsoft? It works, really! | good working angle :) |
For the longest time, I've been wanting a new keyboard, simply because I was getting sick of my Logijunktech Access Keyboard for the following reasons:•It had an extremely cheap feel• THAT F#W$^ing F-lock key •Backweb spyware required to install the drivers :(:(•THAT F#W$^ing F-lock key •The little thingies that held it up at a usable angle (per my preference) snapped in two•THAT F#W$^ing F-lock key •iTouch software wasn't working right anymore• Did I mention THAT F#W$^ing F-lock key yet?
Finally, I broke down and went to locally purchase the Microsoft Internet Keyboard ( $20 @ best buy, and there's a $10 mail-in rebate I need to go fill out and get ). I went and uninstalled the iTouch software from the machine, shutdown the PC to take off the Logitech and stuck the Microsoft one in, and started up. From there, I only wish that I had actually got this keyboard first!
First off, let me say that there were three things that drew me to this keyboard:•NO F-lock key!!! :):)•Still has multi-function keys•I preferred the layout it had (which the logitech did have as well) for the keys,
So it was pretty easy to get into it... in fact, almost too easy. As this is the first keyboard I've ever used where I didn't need to prop it up with those little bracket thingies to use. It was at the right angle I wanted from the get go! Way to go, Microsoft!
What's another thing that is very nice is that I didn't even need to install Microsoft's software to get the keyboard to work (including the multi-function keys). This was not the case with the Logitech. And unfortunately, their iTouch software wasn't even working that well to begin with.
Aesthetics and form aside, this Microsoft keyboard really is great. Solid feel, very tactile response from the keys. What more could anyone ask for?
The keyboard uses the PS/2 interface. So Legacy-free users might be out of luck.
It's definitely a great feeling and great-working keyboard, for a very inexpensive cost. And if anyone at microsoft is listening, a little request: PLEASE make more multimedia keyboards WITHOUT that F-lock key? And maybe a USB version of this one for kicks.
Definitely worth buying here. -- Why I hate VIA | 3K club |

Microsoft did have a USB version called the Internet Keyboard Pro which was both PS/2 and USB compatible.
It was basically what you have now, but it added a few more multimedia keys at the top and a built-in 2 port USB hub. I had that keyboard for a few months and it served me quite well. The only thing lacking was to inability to program the "My Computer" and "Calculator" keys to something else.
Unfortunately, my keyboard was stolen and the Internet Keyboard Pro was discontinued. I replaced it with the Natural MultiMedia Keyboard. I don't know why, but for some reason, MS decided to use PS/2 for all their new wired keyboards and add that infamous "F" key. There is however, software to remedy that. |

that must've been the one I've remembered.
I only wish that they could continue that one. Would be a great buy! -- Why I hate VIA | 3K club |

| I'm a gamer and I was wondering about the keyboard controller. On my keyboard, I can hold more than 2 buttons at once with they Logitech Access Keyboard (they include W-D-SHIFT). You know when you need to sometimes walk in an angle?
With my previous keyboard (a Memorex) I couldn't hold more than two. Same goes with my HP Keyboard. My computer would give me a beep when the third button was hit.
How is it with this microsoft keyboard? Hold W-D-SHIFT, does it beep? |

Just know I held both home rows together and only then did it beep. W-D-Shift works fine as well. -- Why I hate VIA | 3K club |

| reply to C0deZer0 I tryed W-D-Shift on my Generic Dell keyboard, and it did not beep.. worked fine.
I used to have the Logitech Access (in my sis's room now) and it, honestly, wasnt' that bad.. I will admit that there were somethings I didn't like (including the FRICKING F-lock key). But, overall, I could have lived with it..
You know, I saw that keyboard the other day at OfficeMax when I was going to buy a new mouse/keyboard..
I decided to buy the Logitech MarbleMouse USB trackball.. and just get a new, free keyboard from Dell.. I only had $30.00 and the mouse was $19.99.. soo... yeah.
I now wish I would have bought that. |

| reply to C0deZer0 I'm on my third one of these keyboards and I won't get another brand until the last one of these on the planet has been crushed. I don't use the hotkeys, but what I love best is the wrist rest since I use my computer while sitting on a sofa (it's on the coffee table) because of a previously broken back and the wrist rest puts it at exactly the right height in my lap (with feet propped on the coffee table). No extra software needed on my 98se machine and no F-Lock key . If I could find one of these in black I'd get one for my mother's black Dell because her 'free' keyboard is very annoying to use. |
