What the heck?!--car.gw.router.winbeam.com

I was recently informed that I was being switched to the new Cadents today. When I did a lookup on my gateway IP (which is the same it always has been--64.84.104.1) it now resolves to: car.gw.router.winbeam.com

Instead of UBR....avenel01.comcast.net or cdnt...avenel01.comcast.net

Who/what the heck is Winbeam and why are they my gateway?

North New Jersey/Avenel - Comcast Engineers will be performing network maintenance in your area. This may temporarily affect your Internet connection. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. This outage was logged at : 12/10/2003 9:02:00 PM EDT.)

Methinks you have mis-typed something.

Tor-
Sometimes you will need to power cycle or release/renew your IP after a switch such as this.

You'll more than likely be in a brand new range of IP's.

I'm sure you thought of this, but just a reminder.

Thanks JeepMatt. I've been trying that every 20 minutes or so. I guess using dialup now and then reminds me of how much I like my cable!!

Nope. It was a straight copy and paste from the router to the DOS prompt and then a copy/paste of the nslookup results into DSLR.

I was up and running when I was home.

Re: What the heck?!--car.gw.router.winbeam.com

OK, I'm back up in Woodbridge. Probably was OK some time ago but recycling my router seemed to do the trick. I've just been recycling the modem (to no avail). I'll check speeds later.

Re: What the heck?!--car.gw.router.winbeam.com

Whenever Comcast does something to cause an outage I have to cold boot my router. Hitting the recessed reset button doesn't seem to do the trick.

The address you listed is for a router belonging to Winbeam, located in Pittsburgh. It is not a Comcast IP.

You might want to double check that IP. Making an Educated guess, I looked up 68.84.104.1...

I did. Wonder if Genuity is having some kind of weird thing going on. I use them as my DNS server.

Re: What the heck?!--car.gw.router.winbeam.com

Several possibilities -

Comcast flew over your house with the black helicopters and magically moved you to Pennsylvania.

Comcast downloaded the ultra-secret purple code which transposed the 4 and 8 keys in your keyboard driver.

Genuity - never mind, it has to be a Comcast mistake.

You made a typo - which is an exception to rule 1, which is that Comcast is always wrong. Rule 2 - in case of any exceptions, see rule 1.

One can't make a typo if one copies and pastes all of the data. You can blame either Linksys or Microsoft for the mistake then.

Can you post a screen shot of your status page showing your gateway?

I'd love to, but I'm not at home right now. When I get home, I'll do it, provided tht I remember.
