Can one of ya'll that get so much SPAM in your Adelphia Email tell me what you are doing so I DON'T do it, I get no SPAM in my Main Address, but then I don't give it out willy-nilly >> that's what I have Hotmail for.

Exactly. You NEVER give out your Adelphia/Comcast/OOL/Verizon/ et al email addresses unless you want to have spam. Like BurntCricket See Profile said, that is what hotmail is for.

I agree, I get zero spam on my Adelphia account, because it is relatively unknown. Along the same lines, i get zero on my verizon account as well. You put your email address out there and friends forward it half way around the world and back. Shit happens. Maybe you should have been more careful as to who you give your email address to.

I just got some spam today. All they are doing is taking the Adelphia domain and using a dictionary program to invoke a username. It is not like it is Adelphia's fault though (I know nobody said it was).

I have 4 Adelphia.net accounts for testing purposes. The primary one I have, I have had for over three years. I get Zero spam on any of them at all.

I have a Earthlink account still under the same Domain name that it was before earthlink purchased them. That name has been in the public domain...newsgroups, contact for web pages and I use the address to sign up for stuff. I get around 60 a day on that.....

IMHO quit flogging a dead horse.

I've got 3 adelphia.net accounts, 1 adelphia.com account, 1 hotmail account, 1 yahoo account, 1 myrealbox account, 1 charter.net, and a couple mail.com accounts.

I get zero SPAM on my 3 adelphia.net accounts in 3 years.

Maybe 3-5 SPAM a week on my 2 year old adelphia.com account.

Zero on my my realbox and charter accounts.

60-80 a week on my hotmail and yahoo accounts.

and I've stopped checking the mail.com accounts because they're just overrun with SPAM.

Hick,
The email address for the mailbox you've shown can be found listed in the clear in some usenet posts regarding slow drive performance on 2002-05-04 to news1.news.adelpha.net

Its a great place for spammers to pick it up. Want links?

The same username on different domains are also widely listed.

LOL, I dunno....whatever you guys say...

This account has NEVER been given out.

This account has never been used to sign up for anything. This is strictly my work account.

99% 0f the messages aren't even addressed to this acct. They are simply broadcast or deciphered with a "dictionary" program.

Maybe my user name is too easy....dunno

I do know that my Adelphia acct that has never been used for any purpose whatsoever, gets about 25-50 messages per week.

My hotmail accounts that I use to sign up for EVERYTHING, get less spam than my Adelphia accounts.

Like I've said before, I don't know what the problem is, but my main Adelphia acct has become completely worthless.

Just makes me laugh is all....

And this is probably the case. As a test, I created 2 email accounts:
1) firstnamelastinitial@domain.tld (JohnS@xyz.com)
2) firstnamedotlastinitial@domain.tld (John.S@xyz.com)

#1 was severely hit with spam within days, #2 never got any. Most spammers use a dictionary to blast out messages, a slight change in naming convention can reduce or eliminate hits.

That username is also listed for a Tripod webpage site, cox-internet.com email, ucsf.edu email, infi.net email, and iowatelecom.net email.

That username gets around...

I doubt it matters.

[Link showing Google results with email address removed]

apologies for the link and thanks to the moderator who removed it. However it did show that Hicker did in fact use this address on usenet. Usenet is the biggest provider of E mail addresses for every spam factory out there. Search Spiders crawl every post. Luckily as can be seen by other posts in this thread most people are more careful

If you use it for work I would assume (uhoh) that you have emailed a business associate or two. I'm sure they've sent out some sort of FWD, joke, save-the-child, or something like that. Usually those FWD's have hundreds of email addresses in them. And I'm sure at some point one or two of those has been forwarded to a spammer. So a spammer gets hundreds of email addresses for free and passes it on to his spammer buddy. That's one scenario. Here's another....let's say the spammer is using some program that works off of a dictionary file and then adds random numbers on.... and maybe an email address it generates is jimmy32458734259@adelphia.net so it sends an email out to jimmy and the spammer never gets a bounceback. I would guess that the spammer would add that email address to his list of good emails to spam. That's just my guess of a couple of scenarios that could have caused the spam.

Well, as is par for your normal zealous defense of Adelphia, the link ACTUALLY showed something interesting....

Out of the hundreds of posts I've made to NG's, only 2 hits actually showed my email address.

Must be I took the time to manually add my email addy to only those two posts....hmmmm

I'm more inclined to think that Adelphia's farked up, kindergarten email system some how added the address to those posts.

I appreciate the concern for my privacy Mac, but my Adelphia days are over on 12/22, when they're coming to get my modem and digital box.

Hick, you normally make very good points here, but that one is just plain dumb. Why would Adelphia's email server pick an email address at random and add it to usenet? It's not going to happen.

All it takes is ONE appearance of an email addy in usenet, and you are done for as far as spam goes. You have been around for a while, you should know this!!!

A lot of your arguments have been well stated, and factually based. Even though you have obvious disdain for Adelphia and Hob, he did prove you wrong: Your email addy is avaliable for spam mongers to jump on like a group of Chippwea street sluts on free shots.

I, like others, have email addresses that are never published, used to sign up for anything, or otherwise avaliable on the public internet. I don't get bombarded with spam. Period.

You were proven wrong. Move on.

I will miss hicker when he leaves with comments like this

"I'm more inclined to think that Adelphia's farked up, kindergarten email system some how added the address to those posts."

LMAO. Incredible, you really outdid yourself this time! For someone who sets himself up as an expert in Computer Hardware and software you show an amazing tendency to allow your disdain of Adelphia and me to get the better of you.
Perhaps a rogue sneaked in one night and made these newsgroup posts while you were sleeping.

I will miss you!

Hob

you could've just said that instead of posting his address to this page to make it further accessible for spam and to show all of us his personal address that he doesn't want shown to begin with
