 DVR coming soon

A recent newspaper insert claims that DVR is coming soon and we should call to get more information. Well calling normally gets me nothing but run around. I've found this forum to be a much better source for the true facts so to speak. Can anyone IM me or post any information on a time frame for system wide release of the service? As I mentioned in a recent thread. I think the Louisville area has had access to this service for some time now. I'd like access to this service that has been claimed for 3 years now to be coming soon. If I could afford an HDTV I'd get those offerings as well. But that's not in the cards. Our new 32 inch model supposedly has the EDTV ( Enhanced Definition TV ) but that won't support HDTV signals. My household has held off buying a Replay TV or Tivo do to the fact that Insight was supposed to release this service sometime in the future. Well it be nice if the future was finally here and I could get my PVR cable box.

As always any information anyone can provide would be appreciated. If the usual sources don't feel comfortable publicly posting. A quick IM with any info you can provide would be appreciated. Thanks for reading my rant.:D

Quick update - I have to drop the doubt it from the title. It seems the DVR functionality should be coming out system wide soon. A minor technical "glitch" is the hold up it seems. So maybe I may get DVR functionality for Christmas after all.:D Thanks go out to the provider of information. You know who you are. Now if those cable boxes only came with dvd recorders. Ok I know I'm definitely asking to much with that one.

As far as I have been told the launch has been postponed. It was scheduled for the 8th of December I believe but they are still working out some minor bugs. Should be shortly though. I am thinking end of December maybe 1st of January.

That is basically the information I was given. Late this month. Or sometime in January. Once the firmware issue is resolved. The DVR boxes should also be HDTV capable from what I was told. So I guess it's a wait and see type of thing now. But nice to know this is finely / truly in the works.

When I was dealing with my insight fiascoes yesterday, they told me the 18th for sure, but after my experience yesterday I'm kinda starting to doubt what they say.I'm right next to Louisville by the way,in Jeffersonville. They said the cost should be 10 bucks more a month than standard digital, and 7 more for hi-def folks, since we already pay 2 bucks extra a month for that box.

Budget is key here. There are many different options out there for capture, recording and processing. Our current system really isn't setup for video editing. The hard drive isn't large enough and with the current processor it takes a bit to long. DVD recorder prices are coming down. Saw a very nicely priced one at Sam's the other day as a matter of fact. I know many who say well a new drive is only a $100 that video card is only $100 etc etc. Well for some people a $100 is still a chunk of change. Yes I'm aware of the fact that others are lucky enough to use hundred bills as toilet paper. But not my household unfortunately.

Made of phone call today. The phone reps are on the same page for once. Yes there is hope. They confirm the firmware issue with the boxes - actually they just stated there was an "issue" with the new boxes. They also stated they haven't been give any new information on a release date. The info I was given says late this month or sometime next month.

Called again today. Got the lady who always makes my life miserable on the phone. It's sad when you know voices of the local phone reps. She stated they had a meeting just yesterday in regards to this. But of course offered me no enlightened information on an approximate release date. So it's still a wait and see type of thing it seems. She stated many of us are waiting patiently for this release. Guess she is tired of getting calls in regards to this. Oh well isn't that what she gets paid for? Customer service? Correct? So it seems like there won't be DVR for my Christmas. Unless money I don't have pops up into my bank account. Then it'll be Replay TV or Tivo time I guess. But in reality I'll just sit and wait. And wait and wait and wait. At least the UPS and FedEx people show up when you wait. With Insight this has been a 3 year + wait.

That will be nice if it turns out to be true. But I've not heard yet that the firmware issue has been resolved. 2 weeks isn't going to get us DRV / PVR for Christmas. Thanks for the link though - good info.

Edit = A nice new addition to the Insight website

»www.insight-com.com/help/Insight···HDTV.pdf note this is a direct link to a pdf file - I hate pdf lol - but this will open the pdf - Adobe Acrobat is needed at the minimum to view this file.

Now if I call tomorrow and they say this service still isn't available I'm going to be very pissed. They shouldn't advertise a service on there website. That there not ready to offer. Unless they state something like coming soon.

Insight DVR
The capture shows the offering for Louisville, Kentucky

Still not seeing anything for the Springfield,IL area - go figure.
Joy oh joy. Phone reps don't have a clue as always. Now there saying Jan 1 they'll release the service. Yet a manager says we can have the box for $12.95 a month it might just not work properly. My girlfriend forgot to tell me this while she was on the phone. I feel a call to New York city coming on Monday. They played games locally about providing the 384 bandwidth upgrade. I've be told for 3 years now DVR and phone are coming soon. And now it's just more run around. To bad Kim Kelly is gone - she'd solve this with just a simple call. Much like when we got the 384 upgrade when the local office kept saying it didn't exist!!

DVR is coming there was a hardware problem with the new 6208 boxes and they had to ship them all back. They are sending new ones asap. That is why they delayed the launch. As for telephony, I read an article that says Insight is planning on launching it in 2004. A full launch should happen by 2005.

Thanks for the information. But I'm aware this is a firmware issue causing the delay. And according to a local manager they have the boxes. But they may or may not work if deployed. You wouldn't think a firmware fix would take forever and a day. You also would think that since some areas have had this service for a while now using 2 boxes. That Insight could at least release the service that way until the firmware issue with the new boxes is resolved. Either way it's the same ole run around as always with the local office and honestly it gets old. If the boxes were screwed - there should be no mention of DVR coming soon in ads and there should be no mention of it on the website. If you can give the service to the large cities - which they always do. Then you can darn well release it for the rest of us. I'm tired of the excuses. They need to release the service or shut up about it. And honestly you'd think they'd treat a customer who spends close $200 a month with them just a bit better. After this upgrade ( if it ever shows ) it will at $200 a month or just a bit over. If we ever get to add phone it will be over that mark. But we'll save us $10 a month ( at current price per the website ) using the same provider we currently use and more features.

For the record yes we tried to be polite the 1st few calls but got nothing but the usual BS. As I said above I'll most likely waste my time tomorrow and make a call out east. Last time we did this things seem to get solved rather quickly. And a service the local office swore we couldn't get - even though almost ever other Insight city had it - we all of a sudden got - odd how that works.

Yes they do have boxes but all of them had to be shipped back and motorola was sending new ones. Even the employees testing dvr had to return the boxes to be shipped back. What manager told you that it was a firmware problem? In our meeting Tuesday all of the managers agreed that it was a hardware problem and we discussed evrything about the dvr launch and why it is being postponed.

Well since you didn't post your area. I have no clue if that relates to me. Here is my biggest gripe. Louisville, Kentucky started beta testing this service over a year ago. They have had the service for some time now. A glance at the Insight website shows this service and other services are available there. Insight refuses to offer these services to other areas. Insight also swears they can't currently offer DVR do to firmware issues with the cable boxes. Then how in the sam ---- are they offering the service in Louisville? Most likely there using 2 boxes. One for DVR and 1 for the regular digital services. Yet they refuse to offer this solution to those of us who want the DVR service in our area. All areas have been upgraded to offer the service there is no debate there from anyone. It's just = oh the boxes are screwed. We just got off the phone tonight with a phone rep. Do to the fact a server is down in Illinois ( or down somewhere ) and causing problems with the flip bar browser and program guide etc. They still state that the DVR service is on hold do to a memo and that it's hardware related. It's the same horse manure run around you always get from this company. Once again I have to beg them to take more of my money. A pretty stupid way to run a company if you ask me. Giving ---- to your high end customers who pay out there backside for your service. And as for the stupid new ad campaign - give it up!! It's just a big SBC marketing rip off. You should be honest and let your customers state there Insight on your ads. But I forgot there is no truth in advertising. My Insight is I get tired of being jerked around like a chicken every time I call. You get 15 different stories and none of them are even close to sounding like the truth. I swear reps just tell you whatever comes to there mind at the time.

Honestly if there was some form of true competition. That offered better customer service and the same or better services. I'd tell Insight were to stick there service. The only reason I've not called New York yet is I've been ( actually still ) sick with the flu. I shouldn't have to call New York every time I want a new service!!

If Insight can currently provide DVR service to parts of Kentucky with no issue. Then they darn well can provide service to me and the rest of us in other areas. The box excuse isn't working for me!! Try telling the truth for once Insight - it's a very novel way to do business.

Also anyone who knows anything about firmware issues. Knows that in some cases firmware doesn't act up for everyone. There are many cases were firmware on a router or modem causes no problem for the majority of users. But in a few cases causes problems for others. The firmware issue in this instance is supposedly causing the cable box to not address properly.

»DISH Network Adding Local Channels, Insight's DVR
»Insight TV Guide and DVR Info

"Insight's DVR product will feature an 80 GB hard drive, providing up to 60 hours of standard definition and up to 10 hours of high-definition digital recording. It will be available in the following Insight systems: Anderson, Lafayette, Kokomo, Evansville, and Bloomington, Ind.; Louisville, Lexington, and Covington, Ky.; Columbus, Ohio; and Rockford, Peoria, Springfield, and Champaign/Urbana, Ill."

Now the user who provided that information is a trust worthy source. The source that told me the boxes had a firmware issue is also a very trust worthy source. But for gosh sakes how long can it take to get a firmware issue resolved? And why can't someone get all the phone reps and managers on the same page. Do these reps even listen to what there being told during meetings? And if it's a hardware issue - how are your currently providing the service in the Kentucky area with no problems? Because if users who have the service there, were having problems. we all know a few of them would be in here complaining about it.

" Louisville, Lexington, and Covington, Ky." This should be called Insight's God's country. I swear this New York company just loves all people from down south. I liked the people a lot when I worked down that way years ago as well. But I'm getting tired of them getting services we can't get. They got 384 for the 128 price for several years. They get phone and DVR while the rest of us get left out in the cold. No matter how many times we request the service. It gets old. Especially after years of being told - oh sir we promise those services are on there way. It's just around the corner - we swear.

Insight is putting out a lot of commercials for their "new" DVR coming in 2004.

Can't be too long before a full rollout.

I feel your frustration in Springfield, but I can tell you KY isn't receiving DVR service. There are a group of beta testers in the Covington area and another group in Louisville. They have conf calls everyday to go over problems. From what I understand, it's been far from trouble free. I live in the Covington area and have been receiving a similar runaround whenever I call about the status. I have a friend that works with Insight, that's the only reason I know what little I do about the beta test. They advertise here and their website shows that DVR service is available for my area, but whenever I call I get the same bs you do. Last I heard they were going to roll it out 1/8, but today's roulette spin gave me a rep that said they don't have a planned date.

They are now testing the new box with employees. There was a recall on the original box for rf issues but that is supposed to be resolved now. They might be doing a soft launch soon, so you might need to call in and ask about it. I know they wont advertise the soft launch they will give them out to those who call in and ask about it.
