| Comcast to buy Northern Va. Adelphia systems?
I submitted this for news, but apparently it wasn't newsworthy enough. But anyway, DCRTV, a local Radio/TV/Media news site, posted the following today:
quote:
Comcast To Expand? - 12/11 - Don't be surprised if the Adelphia cable TV systems just west of the DC/Baltimore area get gobbled up by Comcast in 2004. DCRTV hears rumblings that Comcast, which owns most of the cable systems in the DC/Baltimore area, is salivating to get its hands on the regional systems of Adelphia, which recently filed for bankruptcy protection. Adelphia owns the cable systems serving the counties of Frederick (both MD and VA), Loudoun, and Fauquier.....

| reply to machpost On a related note, found this on »cbs.marketwatch.com while checking stocks.
Quote from article.. quote: Adelphia Communications Corp. (ADELQ) could also be a target when it emerges from bankruptcy next year, said Craig Moffett, cable analyst at Bernstein Research. Adelphia has systems in western New York that could fit with Time Warner Cable's footprint.

BUT, just like the original poster, this is all just speculation. Nothing concrete here. No need to start up the rumor mill folks. |

Nice post. Like I said, I wonder if any sources were originally cited. If not, I would have a hard believing it and dismissing it... since I hate rumors. -- Adam Number Two..."They have the internet on computers now?" |

Exactly, this is no more than a rumor at this point. However, the rumor that Comcast has had the interest in buying up the few systems in the DC metro area that they don't already own has been going around for some time now. And the guy who runs this site has a reputation for having fairly reliable contacts in the industry. It would be a lot more interesting to hear that they were going after the enormous Cox system in Fairfax County, which is easily ten times the size of Adelphia in Loudoun.
Personally, I'd prefer that the Loudoun system remains in the hands of Adelphia. I really can't complain about Adelphia too much, and I have friends with Comcast in the area who pay about $20 more for a similar level of programming and service. |

| reply to machpost Man, I'm not convinced this would necessarily be a good thing. Adelphia could either keep fixing it or Comcast could acquire it and then drop the ball for a while before they get around to integrating it. Just translates to even more pain and suffering. But then again, more cash is always good. |

| reply to machpost I hope this doesnt happen. I download ALOT and I've yet to receive a letter from Adelphia warning me about bandwidth usage.
If Comcast comes to town, it would be a sad day since I hear first hand from friends using comcast about their shitty soft caps. |
