Verizon is very good. I am on a 400minute/month plan, for $39.99. Service is great, I am hardly ever roaming.

| reply to tmccann11 Hmmmmm guess I will not switch to AT&T. I have been with Sprint for about 4 years now. Their service was always good, but their customer service is horrible at best. They seem to be incompetent, and never see the same thing twice, but that's another post. Now I am having frequent dropped calls, so am considering a switch. Sprint told me to bring the phone in for an update. I told them I only bought the phone 3 months ago, and they said it should be done every 3-6 months. When I had my old phone, the service was perfect till I let them do an update, it was still good, but not as good as it was previous. They do sort of have me over a barrel, I am on one of their "Please stay with plans" 500 anytime minutes, unlimited nights and weekends for $29.99, and I get a 15% discount through my old job. Oh well, guess we will see if the update helps, otherwise it may be time to look elsewhere. -- When you make your mark in the world, watch out for guys with erasers. |

| reply to tmccann11 Hey just a little note. T Mobile is AT&T, so the switch you made from AT&T is still AT&T. Talk about an oxy-moron, no pun intended except to AT&T. I have been with Sprint PCS for Years and i'm not about to switch, no matter who wants to send me a new phone. |

T-Mobile = Deutsche Telekom AG
Deutsche Telekom AG = AT&T??
The history of AT&T (take from »www.att.com/history/ )
The history of AT&T is in large measure the history of the telephone in the United States. AT&T's roots stretch back to 1875, with founder Alexander Graham Bell's invention of the telephone. During the 19th century, AT&T became the parent company of the Bell System, the American telephone monopoly. The Bell System provided what was by all accounts the best telephone service in the world. The system broke up into eight companies in 1984 by agreement between AT&T and the U.S. Department of Justice. From 1984 until 1996 AT&T was an integrated telecommunications services and equipment company, succeeding in a newly competitive environment. Today, AT&T is rapidly evolving from a company that handles mostly long-distance voice calls to a company that provides data and voice communications over any distance through its two operating units, AT&T Business and AT&T Consumer.
U.S. Operations of T-Mobile (taken from »www.t-mobile.com/company/about/ ) Company Overview
Based in Bellevue, Washington, the U.S. operations of T-Mobile International AG & Co. K.G., consists of T-Mobile USA, Inc. (formerly VoiceStream Wireless) and Powertel, Inc. (together "T-Mobile"). T-Mobile International AG & Co. K.G. is the mobile communications subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom AG (NYSE: DT). T-Mobile is one of the fastest growing nationwide wireless service providers, offering all digital voice, messaging and high-speed wireless data services to more than 12 million customers in the United States. A cornerstone of T-Mobile's strong consumer appeal has been its Get More® business strategy to provide customers with the best overall value in their wireless service so they can enjoy the benefits of mobile communications to Get more from life®. T-Mobile has more than 22,000 employees across the country dedicated to delivering on its Get More® promise to provide customers with more minutes, more features and more service.
So I hope you were kidding (or maybe I read it wrong)

I have had AT&T wireless all over the country since 1996 and have NEVER had a trub. My ex wife was able to reach me through the Americas. People who hop services in the wireless market are as big of idiots as those who hop in the landmine market. AT&T IS THE ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

| reply to tyspeed29 My AT&T wireless problems
I think I have given up on AT&T. They have been my provider for the past 7 years. I bought an unlocked GSM phone last week. I tried to get a sim card for it and migrate by TDMA number to the sim card.
No stores in Mid town Manhattan (4 within blocks of my office) had the cards, or had seen one for weeks. They said, "no problem", just call. That started a daily attempt to get to the migration people. Arguing that my phone would work if they just gave me the card! The poorly trained staff never got to send me one.
I walked into the Cingular store at Fifth and 47th St, went to my office, at lunch they called and said to come pick up the phone. It works great! Well, it does have some problems with the network, but where there is a signal, its great. I expect the signal area to improve with time.
My next move is to port the old phone number to the new Cingular service. I just have given up trying to get someone who knows the technology. The last person I spoke to today said, "I cannot port the phone number to a GSM service, any service". What is this women talking about?

I may be wrong, hell we learn something new everyday. But there was no need for wise remark either. If i'm wrong show me proof, I'd like to know. After kg4icg said that T-Mo was AT&T, I went to check, because if so, I would've made a dumb decission and hopefully it could prevent others from doing the same. All in all, I didn't like AT&T service, I went to T-Mobile, and I 100% satisfied.

| I think what he meant was T-mobile and ATT use the same type of GSM system as well as Cingular. ATT and Cingular are just in the transition phase from TDMA to GSM network integration. Where Verizon uses 1900 and 800 MHz CDMA as well as Alltel; and Sprint uses 1900 MHz CDMA.
ATT and T-mobile are two different companies, but with very similar networks. Have you noticed how T-mobile (powertel and Voicestream) had not done well until the use of famous spokesmodels i.e. Zeta Jones. -- Gary N2 NEW COX HSI User!!! |

Thanks for the explaination. That's all I was looking for. In my area, (NY Metro) T-Mobile service is superior to AT&T. So I'm happy I made the decision to switch.

I was going to note that before while giving the histories of the two countries, but I didn't bother because I felt either way, none was T-Mobile.
