| This'll be another popular poll
I use InoculateIT PE and have just tonight installed AVG.
I use the 2 together, as I already used IPE and AVG now gives me some Email protection.
Just need a good Trojan Detection system now. Think I may try TDS3. -- When a problem comes along, you must zip it... zip it good! |

| reply to Wildcatboy Very nicely done. Glad to see I am in the majority so far, and I would venture to guess that Inoculate will stay the leader. What more could you ask for than low resource usage, frequent easy updates, fantastic reputation, and FREE! Good job WCB! -- nam et ipsa scientia potestas est

| reply to Wildcatboy Think results may be skewed a little, I use AVG and PCillin. Think a lot of the regulars here will have more than one, especially with a couple of them being free I voted AVG because that's my resident shield but I keep PCillin updated and let it ride monthly. -- Voted lately? | reply to Wildcatboy I use McAfee VS. I trust it and I don't see a noticeable drain in resources on my Compaq. it had done very well for me and has caught it's fair share of virus' in the past(before using a FW). Dat files are updated every Wednesday and I like that. Support had been good for me as well. |

| reply to Wildcatboy I think you will find quite a few of us use more than one AV, I use IPE, and AVG together. I had IPE first, so I guess that is the one that gets the vote. Hope this poll is as successful as the firewall was. Jim [text was edited by author 2001-05-26 00:47:44]

Ok I checked a combination of two or more.
Right now I am running AVG and Inoculate IT , they work well together and provide that little extra. I can honestly say that with these two AV's in place there certainly is no need to pay for AV software.
On my *bsd systems I run 'Snort' which is a great intrusion detection system for *nix users.
To help prevent issues with memory consumption etc. (I have a ton of items running) I use freemem pro which works great at freeing up unused memory. |

| reply to Wildcatboy I'm another Inoculate IT and AVG fan. Inoculate IT is my main anti virus, but I like the way AVG handles Outlook Express, so I use both. -- Help Us Find The Cure! DSL Reports Team Helix |

| reply to Wildcatboy Re: AV Poll... Surprising early indications?
Good thread, well planned too. Thanks WCB. I can hear you purring from here.
Seems like I am tagging along here with IPE and AVG on the home system. Both are running without restriction.
For the laptop... IPE only (because of space).... but when AVG Ver.7 comes along... err... well, that's for another thread .
One thing I wasn't prepared for was the number of McAfee registrations given what has been said in these threads in recent times. Just an observation folks. Nothing sinister in the comment or derogatory about the program.
Guess I will go now. -- John |

| reply to Wildcatboy Normally I use AVG and InnoculateIT PE together. I've just tacked on Mail Watcher (from Innoculate IT folks, by way of EmilioG's notice) to see how it works - and if it looks good, I may drop AVG. I really like the way AVG deals with email attachments, both coming and going. |

| reply to Wildcatboy Great poll WCB!
I"m currently using AVX Professional and I must say I like it very much.
Especially because it has a couple of advanced protection modules of which this one is my favorite:
AVX Mail Monitor: Filters email on the POP 3 level, insuring that the infected message is intercepted and blocked before its arrival into the email client no matter what email application is used. AVX Mail Monitor directly integrates with Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Outlook Express, Qualcomm Eudora, and Netscape Messenger.
I like this one especially!
Mail server --> AVX pop3 module --> Outlook (Scanning mail before handing it over to Outlook)
This has already saved me a couple of times...!
Truly a great program IMHO

Anon | reply to Wildcatboy i checked a combo of 2 or more. there are 2 i like but for different reasons.
Norton ( not system works or utilities ) because of the bootdisk it makes (saves partition info,FAT,cmos data on floppy and have had to use it beofore).
PC-cillin because it detected more and was able to clean more of them off my test disk then any of the others that where mentioned in the poll. -- You do not need a parachute to skydive. You only need a parachute to skydive twice.
