2 edits | Test your mobile speed I'd be interested if anyone who can get mobile broadband, tests the following link from their mobile broadband whatever.
My treo 600 reports an uninspired 19kbit (gprs, tmobile).

if the device is sufficiently slow it should give a rough guess (rough at this stage - more tuning to be done) at the approx speed.. or it'll do nothing. Please post your result, provider, and broswer if you know this?
thanks in bunches.
One other thing: don't run tests consecutively! wait a minute if you are going to retry.. or just try once! |

now with added options. The first page displays various things about your mobile browser, gleaned from the headers it sends.
Pick the appropriate file size depending on what you know about the speed of your browser.
The last page displays the estimated kilobits per second. |

Got an anemic 20kbit when the cell is working (now), 10kbit when struggling (earlier), and 0 when it is down. |
|
 | Mine was a weak 32kb with AT&T - IPAQ connected through a Sony Ericsson T68i via Bluetooth. |

Hooked up the phone via usb cable to the laptop and connected with the snapdialer software (which is utter crap ) and I did several tests on all the speedtests there, and I got speeds fluctuating from 34k/sec to as much as 88k/sec. -- The things I do for love... |

justinAustralian join:1999-05-28 New York, NY kudos:7 | can you not test direct from the phone? I think it SHOULD work ok even on basic phone browsers? if not .. what happens? |

MisuHey, I Saw ThatPremium join:2000-11-28 Orlando, FL | reply to justin I tried it on the phone, and it just sits there - doesn't work on my phone's browser. Dunno what's wrong with it - the page loads great, I highlight the 50k test link, it goes to the page saying testing is in progress, and then nothing. It just sits on the progress page. And it doesn't look as if data is transfering any more.
That's weird - on the laptop it worked fine. -- The things I do for love... |

| ah testing in progress is the page - what should happen AFTER that is the redirection. If your browser doesn't handle javascript, which lurks at the end of the page out of sight, it will not redirect. I'm trying an alternative approach for this soon.
What kind of browser is it? it shows on the speed test title page in the user agent line? |

Stiofan join:2000-08-21 Post Falls, ID | reply to justin I'm using Reqwireless Webviewer Lite (Webviewer with graphics stripped out) Java browser on my phone through T-Mobile GPRS. I don't get past the redirect announcement.
If I use my built in Moto WAP browser, it won't load. |

| WAP is a sooo touchy
it works ok on a WAP emulator, but with more data I can figure this out.
The redirect announcement is a bear. Your browser has to support javascript of some kind to get past that, although their are fallbacks. I appreciate your testing this out. |
