C0deZer0Oc'D To Rhythm And PolicePremium join:2001-10-03 Davenport, FL | The unofficial *official* gamecube online thread Figured that if there are going to be more people that will be playing the gamecube online (or at least to let people know what it'll be about), we may as well setup a thread for dealing with getting the Nintendo gamecube online.
What games can I play online on the Nintendo Gamecube? Any game that shows the ability to use either a broadband adapter or a dialup adapter should be able to get online with the Nintendo gamecube.
At this point, Phantasy Star Online v. 1 & 2 is the only one I know of (please correct me if I'm wrong on this) that will allow for usage with both types of adapters, but that is largely because PSO is hosted by Sega, and is also run by their own servers, which requires subscribing to a monthly pay-as-you-play service.
However, with the Warp Pipe software, it is possible for any game that will use the broadband adapter in LAN mode to be taken online.
What is Warp Pipe? Warp Pipe is computer software designed to run on Windows & Mac computers that allows for providing a "LAN tunnel" for games that are able to use the broadband adapter to play over the internet for the Nintendo GameCube. For those familiar with XbConnect for the Microsoft Xbox, it is the same theory, but used for the Gamecube instead.
Where can I download the Warp Pipe Software? Go to this page for downloading the warp pipe software. As of this writing, there is a 0.3 beta for Windows NT/2000/XP, and a 0.1 Alpha for MacOS X.
I have Win9x at the moment; will I still be able to use Warp Pipe? As of this moment (after checking the Warp Pipe Forums ), you will have to wait until v.0.3.1 is released for Windows 9x to be supported.
I have MacOS 9 (or earlier). Will Warp Pipe Software work for me? As of current knowledge, there is no plans to support warp pipe software for any pre-OS X Macs.
I have downloaded the Warp Pipe Software. how do I set it up so that I can get the gamecube to go online? Documentation Page
Warp Pipe is made to support many different types of network setups. In the network adapter section on the dialog box for Warp Pipe, you will have to select the adapter that will be communicating w/ the Gamecube.
e.g. If you have both the computer running Warp Pipe and the Nintendo gamecube behind a Cable/DSL router, you choose the adapter that is interfacing w/ the router.
If you have two NICs and have the Gamecube connected to one PC, and the other going online, you choose the adapter that is going to "talk" with the Gamecube, not the one going online (per their writing).
Do I have to use a cross-over cable, or a simple patch ethernet cable for Warp Pipe to work? Warp Pipe was designed to work with either type of cabling.
Can I have my Gamecube wirelessly connected to my LAN setup and still use warp pipe? As of this time, Warp Pipe is not designed to work with wireless setups, nor is it supported.
However, if you do attempt (and succeed), please ensure to post and describe (as detailed as possible) how you did it, and what hardware is being used in the process.
What is required to run Warp Pipe? •Warp Pipe Software•Nintendo gamecube (duh )•Nintendo Gamecube broadband adapter•A supported Game•A FAST Broadband connection•A supported network setup
Quoted from their site: said by Warp pipe site: When you start Warp Pipe, you have two options to start a successful connection. You can either listen or wait for someone to connect to you, or you could connect to someone who is listening. In order to listen, you simply leave the IP field blank and click the "Connect" button. In order to connect, you need to enter the IP of someone who is already listening into the IP field and click the "Connect" button. Upon a successful connection, you will be notified.
For all other aspects of the connection process, please be sure to pay attention to the software. Follow the instructions the software gives you, such as when to turn on your GameCube, and when to actually enter LAN mode. Remember, when you start the connection process GameCubes on both ends of the connection should be properly connected to your network. Each person has a different set of instructions given by the software after the initial connection, please make sure to follow them.
How fast of a connection do I need to run warp pipe? The Warp Pipe developers recommend a minimum of 128Kbps upload for most supported games, with a minimum 256Kbps upload for Kirby's Air Ride.
What games are supported by Warp Pipe? Currently, the support games list includes:•Kirby's Air Ride•Mario Kart: Double Dash!!•1080: Avalanche
Where can I buy the Nintendo Gamecube Broadband Adapter? You can attempt to try purchasing it locally at places like GameStop & EB Games, but be forewarned that they will almost always be in short supply.
If you're looking to buy online, you may want to try purchasing it Direct from Nintendo, or in places such as lik-sang.
Will there be a Linux version of Warp Pipe? The Warp Pipe developers have just recently released a Linux Version of warp pipe. You may download it by clicking here. However, it is still relatively unsupported compared to the Windows & Mac clients.
Will there be a version that allows me to find people to play The Warp Pipe developers are working on getting a 1.0 client that will allow for finding people to play against, chat-rooms for meeting with people, and possibly a "buddy list" for people you prefer to play with (or against ).
How much does it cost to run Warp Pipe? Beyond the cost of the hardware involved (and the internet connection), running the warp pipe software is free, and the developers have every intent on keeping it so.
I have the Nintendo Gamecube dial-up adapter. can I still play online with warp pipe? No. For one, it is technically impossible to put the dialup adapter within the tunnel that warp pipe needs, and secondly many games do not support the dial-up adapter (besides PSO).
I have a router. What ports do I need to forward for warp pipe to work? You will need to forward port 4000 for UDP & TCP traffic to the computer running warp pipe, not the gamecube.
I hope that this thread will be useful to others, and that anyone willing will share their knowledge in attempting to get the gamecube online.
If you also are ready to go and want to play, do feel free to post some kinda contact info, or shoot a PM at least. -- Why I hate VIA | 3K club

I'll openly admit i'm biased though-PC gaming is what I enjoy most-but I do own an xbox and gamecube-and I havent enjoyed any of the online titles with the exception of football on xbox. I think Nintendo has the right idea staying away from the online titles for now. Course thats the least of their problems. -- Intel Pentium 2.66GHZ @ 2.9GHZ-512MB DDR PC 2700-120GB Sea Gate-Nvidia GeForce 5900 NON-ULTRA-ATI 9800 Non Pro/both 128MB and 8X AGP | | C0deZer0Oc'D To Rhythm And PolicePremium join:2001-10-03 Davenport, FL | I think it's very possible, and could be very satisfying.
I know that when I stiill had dialup, I couldn't get an acceptable ping for playing on Quake 3 arena worth a shit. But when I had the dreamcast and was able to connect with its version of Q3A, I had very smooth gameplay, even when playing against PC gamers that had the Sega pack to be able to connect to DC gamers.
It's certainly possible, but getting to apply it is the challenge. -- Why I hate VIA | 3K club | | lobofrag---Love join:2002-10-15 Oak Lawn, IL | reply to C0deZer0 I agree, on dial-up..the dreamcast was awesome...nice low pings...(thanks to at&t?) Whereas dial-up gaming on a PC is next to impossible. So I see your point there. Personally, I just havent found a game I'd like to take online with a console (beside football..which is also losing my interest since everyone quits the game if your winning) ...although Mario Kart sounds fun online. =) -- Intel Pentium 2.66GHZ @ 2.9GHZ-512MB DDR PC 2700-120GB Sea Gate-Nvidia GeForce 5900 NON-ULTRA-ATI 9800 Non Pro/both 128MB and 8X AGP | | C0deZer0Oc'D To Rhythm And PolicePremium join:2001-10-03 Davenport, FL | Hopefully, I can get some more of these broadband-enabled games soon enough.
But for now i'd be happy with getting mario kart online.
