It Worked! We Won!

Our favorite stupid company has reconsidered its position. They have removed our e-mail addresses! See for yourself at amazon.com/seller/[your nickname goes here] and click on "View new Seller Profile page." Finally! It took them long enough.

I wonder if all our pressure finally made them change, or was it a change of heart on the part of Amazon.com?

We still need to keep an eye on Amazon.com. This is may happen again in the future when they decide again to toy around with our nicknames. I still cannot trust them with my personal information, and that is why I am no longer an Amazon.com customer.

If you want to close your account with Amazon.com, please visit »www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/br···-/565164 for complete instructions. I want to add information to this before you close your account. Very important! Go into your account and delete as much information about you as possible, including your credit card number, addresses in your addresses book, and anything else you can think of and can delete. Also change your e-mail address too! I can tell you I closed my account in the middle of this fiasco, and my e-mail address was still posted.

When you send an e-mail to request your account closed, they will reply to make sure you really want to do this. If you really do, just reply to the message. It may take 24 hours for each reply to your request. They will honor your request.

I want to thank everyone here for their help and insight. Without everyone's communications to Amazon.com, and for the publicity this received, Amazon.com I don't think would have changed. Unless they really do have a heart and care about our personal information. Happy holidays to you all.

That's not really much of an improvement. It IS a good thing that they've removed the email addresses of their membership who aren't active sellers or bidders. But, why should sellers' and bidders' addresses be exposed?

Again, eBay does it right. Why can't Amazon understand that? There's no need to display those email addresses! This creates a huge dis-incentive for going anywhere near Amazon Auctions.

Re: Amazon.com Posting E-mail Addresses

For those wanting to cancel your Amazon.com account, I will provide you what Amazon.com does not.

Here is the toll free number directly to their Customer Service department. I'll tell you that they are a VERY friendly group, and terribly helpful.

800/201-7575.

Sure they're friendly; they're lonely because no one knows how to reach them!

lol...that could very well be.

All I know is, I'd placed an order for a book once long ago....and it never came. I combed the 'Net for a toll free number, because the email address gave me the runaround. I finally tracked this number down, called, NO HOLD WHATSOEVER, got me right to a rep at like 9 pm. Totally polite, totally respectful, totally helpful. Found my order, pushed it through.

after last week I will no longer do business with amazon.com. i cant prove it, but after i posted about my check card/credit card number being duplicated and used in Belize, I did some investigating. only place online the card was ever used was equifax and amazon. the info was stored there in the account, which has been removed. I havent heard anything about them being hacked or anything like that, but with the email thing now I don't trust them even more.
