  How dare you!

Inexpensive, but never cheap!

[edit]Even Steve calls them cheap. So I guess it is okay for Coma.[/edit]

Great idea. Not everyone who wants a portable music player needs 10gb. My library JUST passed the 10gb mark, and I have been ripping music to my HD for years. I know for a fact this would be a huge seller.

Re: Cheap iPods ?

A good move on Apple's part to help fend off all the other mp3 players coming into the market/

Don't you mean severely DRM'd .wmv players. They're like a plague, they try to copy the iPod and each new one is worse than the last, they beat the iPod in one aspect and loose to it in all the rest.

I think this would be a big seller for those who want an iPod but do not want to spend that kind of money and may not even need all the space.

I sure don't need the space I have. AI posters made a point, though, that the 1 and 2 GB micro-disks (0.8 in platter) may cost more than the 1.8s that are in the current iPods. Maybe the cheapest thing would be to reintroduce the 5 GB iPod at a smaller size and weight, with colors.

Appleinsider AND Thinksecret have now said it is coming, the two most reliable sources of information, IMO. It must be official :O I really hope Apple comes out with some kickass new higher-capacity/high-end iPods though. I will be selling by 15GB to get something bigger in January. Hopefully it will be a 60GB iPod-Pro PDA

This is an awesome idea. This is one situation where Apple can totally dominate. We can out-Sony Sony (referring to Walkman, which came out when I was a wee one)!!!! Yippee!!

Now if only we could get 5.1 surround tracks onto an iPod....that would be an audiophile's dream.

If the think Secret story is correct I wonder what all Steve is going to talk about for 2+ hours.

The way Apple has been sending out all sorts of iPod disount coupons for either having an Apple loan, using iTMS, or spending more than $250 , it sure wouldn't be surprising if there was some kind of new Pod in the works.

Now that iPods are multi-platform removable faceplates in various colors would make more sense thanmanufacturing them in colors. Remember the surplus of Flower Power iMacs?

I'm telling you, Appleworks has not seen any meaningful updates in years. If they can pull off Safari, they can pull off an office suite. Why else would AppleWorks be left to rot for so long? TextEdit is just a teaser.

I hope that the audio quality does not decrease with these new iPods. I'm kinda debating getting a portable CD player, or getting an iPod. The important thing for me is that it plays wav files, not MP3, as this will be my music and test signal source when I tune sound systems, MP3's don't cut it for my ears and test gear. My collection of wav files I regularly use for testing does not consume more than 2 GB at most on my hard drive, so a mini iPod with the same audio quality as the more expensive ones would be quite attractive to me.

iPods will play WAV and AIFF files, and hopefully this feature will carry over to the newer MiniPods.
