The Giganews retention has improved considerably lately.
Before, when it was only 18 days max, the odds were that
if you tried downloading anything that was over 10-11 days
old, there was a good chance that those articles would
have been purged from their servers. Earlier today I tried
to download some stuff from a group I hadn't pulled headers
from in almost a month, and found that articles dating from
11/27 (24 days old as of today) were still on their
servers. This is for multipart binaries, BTW. If you're
using Giganews for text groups, the retention is probably
at least 90 days, if not more.
