| BEFSR41 v3 connection problem solved?
I just thought I'd share my long awaited fix to a problem I've been having with this cursed router. I purchased this router because I had such a good experience with the previous versions and my other dlinks crapped out. I'm not absolutely sure the problem is the router, but after I installed it my internet connection appeared to get cut off. I'd surf the net and then I'd get a "Cannot find server" from IE. While still in IE I would go to the "status" page in the router's setting and disconnect (it says it was still connected) and reconnect. When I would click the buttons...i always had to click back. No refreshing! ANYWAYS....I discovered using another browser solves the problem of being "disconnected". I assume its a problem with the router because of the timing and other numerous problems. Did anyone have this problem? |

| reply to theeaddress I have a smimiler problem with the BEFSR41v3 i am using roadrunner cable internet and i have 4 computers hooked up to my linksys router. I have switch out the router numerous times untill bestbuy told me i could not exchange it anymore in total i have been through 4 routers and the problem accoured the same on all 4.
here is whats happening to me, i can access the internet fine and go to websites and vies there content and the router runs like it should until i attempt to download a file that large like over a meg the. buring the download normaly about 300k into it, i will lose conectivity to the internet i cant ping out or anything but i can still access the main router page 192.168.1.1 linksys told me its my isp, i told them there full of crap. The reason i do not belive it to be my isp is because when i disconect my linksys and use my old netgear router it works fine i can download and vist pages and everything. Linksys told me they could not help me they when through all the settings and that it was not a problem with the router that its the isp agin i called um some name and told um there full of crap agin.
so i need help i've been through everything from mtu settings to DMZ stuff to no resolve if you know something i can try to make this router work i am game
i do not give up easaly and when addressed with a problem i do not like to give up but on the same note im not above asking for help so drop me a reply |

| reply to theeaddress Hi Folks, I purchased a Linksys BEFSR41 V3 about a week ago. It came with Firmware version 1.04.8 which dates back to June 2003. So far there is no other version available for North America. So far there has not been one glitch or problem show up. It is still on the same IP# that it had initially etc.
I expect it will continue to be fine....but then I am on an ADSL connection. Most folks reporting problems are on "Cable". One thing to keep in mind is that not all "ISP's" are equal. In fact they are generally all using some Custom software/configuration that is unique in some way from all the others. Linksys does provide a few "Specialty" ISP interfaces, but has not got an answer for them all. Probably never will. A general pattern from the Forum seems to be that ADSL is implemented by ISP's in a relatively consistent way, hence fewer problems from that "Quarter".
Another issue that Linksys faces is International ISP's around the "Globe" can be quite diverse as well. Not all Telco's are the same either. So it's a case of "Best of Luck"....NE1 want to create a "Standard" for the World and get it put in place? |

| reply to deathstar2k3 So do you guys actually get disconnected or does the browser make it appear as if you were disconnected? Try a different browser next time you've been kicked off. And for some reason the frequency of the perceived disconnects went down after I reinstalled the firmware. |

If using a different browser solves the problem, why do you think it's the router? Could it be some setting in IE? Do you have IE set to Never dial a connection? |

| I think it's the router because of the timing of the problem and the other numerous problems. I never had this problem until the day I installed the router. I don't know who is to blame but this problem shouldn't be happening. And yes, IE isn't to ever to dial. I have no modem. Is this a known issue in IE?
Cisco REALLY needs to update. I can't believe they would ship a very defective router and not update it. I remember the older versions had bugs, but those were fixed relatively quickly! Despite all this I'd still buy it again! it's not as bad as some other routers have been. |

| reply to theeaddress I too believe its the router. I read on this forum to disable UPnP and since I disabled UPnP this router has never dropped a connection! So if you ask me it's the Linky and the way it implements UPnP.
P
PS I also have a v2 router with UPnP enabled and have never had a drop. -- Patrick MCSE / MCDBA

| reply to theeaddress Hi folks, adding a HUB between the Modem and the BEFSR41 did solve some issues for the older V1/V2 Models and certain Modems that had problems with the 10Mb WAN port. The "NEW" Model (V3) now has a 10/100Mb WAN port so in that case "all bets are off". I expect a HUB would not have any effect if you have a V3 BEFSR41...
PS. I upgraded to 1.04.17 as well. So far no problems to report from here....Cheers. |
