You have no idea what you said guatra it is really hard to convince them to fix it Because they always believe the problem is the configuration of the PC but in many cases it is not. If the problem were the configuration then the error would be constant or at least have some type of pattern. I have ROADRUNNER too and after trying it all i thougt i had problems with the signal or the modem but if that were the problem the 2 technicians that came would have fixed it. the problem is in their network and only few users notice it because it is at certain times especially at night. Also most applications dont need flawless connections, while others, such as online games, require an error free, stable and steady connection. Because of that it is really hard to prove the packet loss. There are no many chances that at the time they run their tests you are disconnected because it is always for short periods.
If they dont fix my "intermitent connection" im gonna ask them to refund my money and ill call again my previous ISP (not as fast but stable) |

In a perfect world where all technicians are competent that would be true. Of course if your problem is not local there is nothing a technician can do for you. I would just keep harassing tech support with logs of your packet loss. If you only experience packet loss during prime time then it's not likely that a technician could help anything sounds more like they need to beef up their network out there. |

| I had the same problem last week but with a different result.
Intermittent packet loss, associated with changes in the upstream power. A tech was scheduled for Friday morning, arrived on time. He was stumped, called for a senior field tech, and two more showed up.
3 hours later they left. Together they found and corrected:
Wrong DC Incorrect (and defective!) tap. 550 Mhz tilt corrector that should have been removed 6 years ago when the network was rebuilt. Mis-adjusted amplifier
They also replaced half a dozen crimp-on F connectors with snap seals on general principles.
So, not all RR service calls turn out bad. |

In the vast majority of areas, there's only one cable company, so that's unlikely to happen. There's always Earthlink cable, but they run over the same Time-Warner lines as RR, so any issues you have with RR would more than likely affect Earthlink as well.
Sounds like it's time for you to look into DSL or other alternatives to cable. |
