Just went online an hour ago with mine. I do have a router, but that shouldn't matter... In my case, where it asks if you have to login with a username/password, I said "no". After that, all the defaults choices were right.

Just don't forget to unplug your modem when you switch between PC/PS2 (unless you get an extra IP address)
