I have the 1500/768 plan (static IP) and my speed test results are 981/434.
I used to get 1300/550 - I've posted previously about my upload speeds.
This morning, I noticed my DSL seemed sluggish. So I did a speed test and 981/434 was the result.
I checked my DSL modem's synch speed and it was syncing to 1500/768.
Why am I getting such lousy speeds all of a sudden?
I called speakeasy and I started trouble ticket. Covad is gunna come by and do a loop test and do something else (I don't know exactly).
I hope they fix it because I won't tolerate 941/434 speeds at $90/month for a 1500/768 plan.
I was given the same line "There's no SLA with this plan".
I understand that I don't have an SLA but it still doesn't explain why one day my DSL was 1300/550 consitently and the next day it's 981/434.
Any thoughts on this matter?
Speakeasy had better fix this or else I'm gone  |

They just want to send out techs all the time until you're fed up complaining about it and just shutup and accept what you're getting. Comcast and sbc are your alternatives. |

| reply to LordBritish Not sure why your speeds would drop, but I have to say SE is the best ISP I have come across. You will have the same problems with Cable Internet. I previously had COX HSI, and they would send out idiot techs. when I had problems, hook up a box to my wire, and not find anything.
If your line quality (pings) is still good, and you game, I would suggest you stick with SE. I know it sucks to have your speed drop, but you will be worse off with Cable Internet or another DSL provider.
I am not talking about the original poster, but a lot of people on dslreports focus on SPeed WAY too much. Line quality is so much more important than speed. My DSL line has gone out maybe twice in the 18 months I have had it. Cable Internet seemed to go out every month. |

Funny thing is 2 days ago when i did all these tests, i was 7 ms to my first hop now im 24!!! thats a 300% increase! What in the world happened over these 2 past days? And Latency is crucial to me since im a gamer! Speakeasy PLEASE fix this.

SpeakEasy said that the phone company "thinks" my problem may be internal wiring problems. I don't know why they think that since I didn't change any wiring.
Furthermore, I'll be billed $200 for this wonderful "service" if I choose to have it done. Needless to say, I won't be doing it since i'm sure it won't fix the problem and I wil be billed $200 on top of it.
Something fishy is going on - hmmm. |

I'm Sorry i have to say this, but this company is a joke. That supposed "Upgrade" did nothing but screw up my service even more. Im getting 900something/500something .. for 150 bucks a month ...*sigh*
Im canceling mine when i get the 5000/5000 line from Etheric on Friday. The line im getting is 129 bucks!! Cheaper then this crap service. I think that why they took down there Stupid "Pssss.. Guess what? Where top rated in the bay area", because they know thats just pure BS. Ive had nothing but problems with my modem losing sync, employees failing to follow up with things, speeds lower then advertised, ping times dramatically rising by the day. How can they really charge for this garbage like its Premium Service? Far from it. I've said this before and ill say it again. Speakeasy Sold out to corporate Mumbo Jumbo, and now there just another DSL company. Nothing more or less. This is not the same service i used to read about. This is not the same Service you and I Ordered. I can get these kind of ping on AOL broadband now if i wanted. In fact, I get better pings with Comcast cable then speakeasy dsl. No joke.
I wish i could say that this has been one helluva line, but i cant do that. I'm just being honest with you folks and honest with myself. This Service is going down the tubes ... fast. Im sorry to say that. They better get on the ball over there .. or i can guarantee there going to lose a lot of valuable customers. What a shame. It always happens when cool companies go corporate.
Edit: I guess that stupid advertisment is stil up. My Bad ..I thought I saw it go away the other night. |

Line problem my ass, overhead my ass .... so there saying i have 25% overhead? I don't think so ... maybe more like 0.25% overhead. I don't see anything about overhead when you sign up. I don't see them advertising "Get DSL that is 80% of 3000/768, or 1500/768" awww. god .. i could go on forever. Im really pissed off about this whole thing, i apologize guys if im venting a little hard. whew!! ...*deep breathe* *exhale* .. ok ...just something to think about. |

| I am having the same problem in Colorado. Over this past weekend speed was fine, yesterday things seemed sluggish. Speed tests have went from 1300/300ish to 600/300ish max. The morons I am dealing with on the phone don't seem to give a s**t and I am spending $79 a month on this. I left Adelphia 8 months ago and have been fine with Speakeasy up until yesterday. The service sucks and I have a feeling that I am going to get the run around on this. Any suggestions as to an alternative to going back to Adelphia.

| reply to LordBritish Yeah, i'm having the same problem out of Chicago/Detroit. Up until 2 weeks ago I was testing at 1300/500 now I'm at 750/500. Mine is a Worldcom connection and MCI says they find nothing wrong with the loop. Sounds like this is an engineering issue on Speakeasy's side. But of course as luck would have it advanced support doesn't know what to do. Very frustrating. |

| reply to LordBritish Thats pretty **Magical** that all of our lines drop in speed at the same time. And then they blame it on the end users. The more and more i look at this... it just goes to show you how much a of a Scam DSL is. The whole computer business is a scam. I want out. Nothing but shady con artists, selling shady software, shady INTERNET, shady hardware. This business blows.
I suggest everyone try to find a "Wireless" Provider in your area, if possible. The speeds are usually symmetrical, in the 5Mb range. This DSL is just a scam... anyway you look at it. Thank god for alternatives. |

1 edit | Hmmm I wonder if anyone is even working on trying to fix whatever is causing our download speeds to be cut in half. I sure hope so, because i wont stand for this another week thats for sure. I dont know what these people are doing, dont they see that people are getting half speeds with double the latency. Is anything going ot be done or what? |

The LEDs on my DSL modem are blinking.
I have a SpeadStream 5260 and the 2nd and 4th LEDs from the left are blinking green.
The LEDs are labeled ATM and ENET.
Hmmm, SpeakEasy must be doing something right now. |

1 edit | The ATM light blinks when ATM traffic is passing (packets to/from the Internet). The ENET light blinks when traffic is passing from your NIC to your Speedstream. The light you never want to see anything other than solid green is the DSL light.
I don't think that Speakeasy is doing anything, you are just online.  |
