Thanks

WRT54G V1.0 -
BCM4702 MIPS CPU
BCM4306 802.11a/b/g MAC processor
BCM2050 802.11b/g radio transceiver

- MAC processor and radio unit on separate mini-PCI card
- 125 MHz MIPS processor

WRT54G V1.1
BCM4702
BCM4306
BCM2050

- all chips on main board
- 125 MHz MIPS processor

WRT54G V2.0 (note: speculation)
BCM4712

- integrates BCM4702, BCM4306, BCM2050 into one chip
- 200 MHz MIPS processor
- integrated USB
- integrated Ethernet

version 1.0:

version 1.1:

no available pic of version 2.0 as yet

v1.0 and v1.1 seem to be able to use firmware from 2.0

hope this helps

So would it be true that the real differnce is several chip funcions relocated to a signal chip and the processor going from 120 to 200MHz.

There are not practical differences, like new features, between them.

Is this correct?

afaik yeah no diferences. since v2.00.8 firmware (for v2 WRT54G) can be used on the v1.0 and v1.1

Not sure what all is different, but here is a link about the chip that is in it.

I guess it also makes it cheaper for them to produce.

Re: exterior or packaging differences?

Is there any way (box markings, serial#, etc.) to determine whether you've got a v2 hardware revision without opening up the box?

Last year when I picked up a Netgear RP614 there was a small "v2" printed on the boxes containing the latest hardware.

There's a sticker on the bottom of my new WRT54G that says "ver 1.1" in addition to the MAC and serial#. The box says "WRT54G v1.1-PKG-30717B".

On my v1.1 if you look at the bottom of the box near the bar code you see a sticker with the MAC addy and the serial number.

Next to that, printed on the box it says WRT54G v1.1-PKG-30717B.

don't go by what the box says. my box says v1.1 but on my WRT54G it says v2

Well, I should be tied to a chair and burned with lit cigarettes!

You made me look! Mine says v2 on the unit also.

Damn the deception!

In other words: My bad!

Re: WRT54G and 1.0/1.1/2.0

The only way to tell by not opening up the package itself is by its serial number. From what I have seen, all the v2 units have a CDF5xxxx serial number (starts with a digit 5).

if you have one go here: »192.168.1.1/SysInfo.htm it will tell you the hardware version.
