2004 AntiVirus Poll

Well, with the New Year and everything, it's probably a good time to have a new poll. KAV, NAV, McAfee, and NOD32 have undergone considerable changes, virus threats are more pronounced and serious, and with the many events in 2003, we've all have many different observations and opinions..In this New Poll, I tried to make it as current as possible.. If their is an AV product I didn't include, I'm sorry, but I put as many as I could based on my memory and the past polls. I'd like to propose a couple of guidelines, to make it easier and more productive for all of us here...

1. I didn't differentiate between betwwen different versions. I started to, and then I saw it was getting pointless. If you are using xxxx AV version 6, and version 7 is out, just vote for xxxx, and simply post your little comment, if you'd like.

2. Let's have fun, be helpful toward one another, and hopefully we'll have a very nice thread and strong frame of reference for the future. Let's also concentrate on why you like/use your AV.

3. If you use more than one AV, I suggest you vote for the AV of your conscience (LOL).. Simply put, vote for the AV you'd REALLY depend on. There is no way to allow multiple voting and keep this fair. If there was a way, I would have told you...

Let's Go!

PS.. Thanks to WCB for his help!

What AV program do you use?
NAV 312 (34%)
AVG 143 (15.6%)
KAV 117 (12.7%)
McAfee 75 (8.1%)
NOD32 52 (5.6%)
Avast 50 (5.4%)
E-Trust (InoculateIT/Vet) 43 (4.6%)
PC-Cillin 28 (3%)
Panda 20 (2.1%)
AntiVir 16 (1.7%)
Other (What 15 (1.6%)
F-Prot 11 (1.2%)
F-Secure 11 (1.2%)
Dr. Web 8 (0.8%)
BitDefender 5 (0.5%)
Please?) 4 (0.4%)
AVK-AVK Pro 2 (0.2%)
Norman Virus Control 2 (0.2%)
Sophos 1 (0.1%)
WinCleaner/Quickheal 1 (0.1%)
E-Scan 0 (0%)
Command AV 0 (0%)
916 participants.

What if I have two different AVs? I can only vote once. I voted NOD32 since that's what I have on my desktop now. I have eTrust on my laptop since it is free for a year. Down the road, when KAV 5.0 comes out, I may jump on that.

KAV 4.5 Personal because of it's detection rate and it's regular/automatic updates.

For when I am actually on Windows, that is

NAV... although it's the outdated 2003 version and won't update anymore. I'm still on my way to the store to get 2004 edition.

And don't flame me on not having protection against new viruses and junk. I've heard it once, and I don't want to hear it again. Besides, my old computer doesn't expire for another month.

Well i just bought KAV personal Pro now that my NOD liscense expired. I have nothing negative to say about nod. It was a very good performer resource wise. Updates were commonly more than once a day. BUT i kind of felt NOD wasnt doing enough due to its low resource usage, and supposed rep for being more or less focused on just viruses.

I would try nod again any day. But i figured i would try KAV again. I used AVP years ago and it was highly reguarded then as it is now.

I used NAV for a while but... i dont think i will ever again.

And i have to mention Trojan Hunter... Its runnign along side KAV right now

Same answer as last year for me:

I voted for NAV because I have NAV 2004 running resident. I use KAV as an on-demand backup scanner.

The subscription is expired, thus, it doesn't want to update the virus information anymore.

Well, just for posterity's sake, I guess.. I had to decide between two AV's, being KAV and NAV.. My vote went to KAV.. Detection is "uncanny", and the excellent support of the KAV team and the UK Support are a valued asset to me. Plus I like what I saw in the KAV Beta 5 so far...

Just wondering, are you saying McAfee 7, or the latest 8 version...?

I'm still using ver. 6.2 DAT files are all the same so I really don't see a reason to upgrade. I believe i'm just as protected as if I were using 7 or 8 from what I read.

Re: 2004 AntiVirus Poll

Any version of McAfee 6 an up offer the same protection, 7-8 added Spyware detection, I used 8 until Sunday then rolled back to 7.

Anybody a little concerned about the fact that KAV failed it's lastest VB100% for XP?

No nor would I care if McAfee failed that test.
