Re: [DSL] SBC.YAHOO DSL Help

Careful on the distance thing. If you're on a remote terminal the measurement may not reflect the correct thing. What's more important is what speed package did you purchase?

Assuming you purchased higher than you're testing here are a few Q's

1) Are you running a BB router and is that BB router capable of doing the PPOE for you? Most are and I HIGHLY recommend you REMOVE the PPOE software supplied by SWB. I've used both a DLink (713P) and an SMC (70004ABR) and the PPOE worked fine with SWB.

2) Are you using the browser SWB supplied? If so remove it and use Mozilla

3) Are you using ANY of the YAHOO crap SWB supplied? If so remove it. Use no more than a POP3 interface to the YAHOO crap.

Bottom line, throw out the CD that SWB gave you, remove ANY software SWB told you to install, get a BB router to do your PPOE (firewall also), and get a decent browser like Mozilla!

I also pay $95 a year to ipowerweb for my own domain ($ included for 1 yr subscription), email, webhosting, ... 400MB storage, 40GB Xfer, unlimited email accounts, CGI, NO ADs, ... It's well worth it and the service has been OUTSTANDING. Send an email and someone WHO ACTUALLY TALKS TECH responds in an hour or so. They actually test stuff!!!!!! If you decide to open an account, I'd appreciate it if you listed me as a referal (pm me)!!!!! (don't let that discount my opinion of their service)

Re: [DSL] SBC.YAHOO DSL Help

ADSL (which is what SBC sells) can make it to 18000 feet on a clean line. I'm at 17800 feet and get a stable 1300/220 on a 1500/256 line. The ADSL spec says it can deliver 1.5Mbps at 18000 feet. Again, assuming its a clean line AND ADSL.

ADSL Distance / Bandwidth
Up to 18,000 feet 1.544 Mbps
Up to 16,000 feet 2.048 Mbps
Up to 12,000 feet 6.312 Mbps
Up to 9,000 feet 8.448 Mbps
