My brother bought a house in Lakewood. His neighbor can get DSL, but he can't. And his dial-up sucks big time too. On his 56k modem he's lucky if he can get connected at 26,400...Apparently the 20 or 30 feet between his neighbors house and his exceeds the max for even the lowest ADSL available from Verizon...
1. Use wireless router to share the DSL from your brother's neighbor.
2. Find out the distance whether is caused by load coil, if yes, request the line be re-condition that means the load coil be removed.

There is no official Verizon representative in broadbandreports.com/dslreports.com.

However, if you can have most of your neighbors to pledge to subscribe to Verizon business DSL directly which they do charge much higher rates than residential addresses instead of going to resellers like DSLextreme which does not charge higher rate for business addresses then Verizon may consider to install a CO (central office) in your area.

You can ask for the e-mail address of Verizon representative in Verizon own USENET or news groups that only Verizon subscribers have access to in broadbandreports.com/dslreports.com Verizon forum at »Verizon Online DSL It appears to me that the Verizon representative in Verizon own USENET or news groups does have good contact with the right people.

Nevertheless, you would really have to have a lot people pledge to sign up their business DSL before even ask for the e-mail address since I saw so many similar requests without success. After all, Verizon does make good money even businesses use dial-up Internet access with a local access number as Verizon does not offer flat rate business telephone line like SBC. That means even a local call Verizon does charge by minute. No to mention they can sell you T1 for more profit.

You are connected to switch [CO (central office)] MNRVCAXG35K which is located at 116 W LIME AVE, MONROVIA, CA 91606 and has rate center as MONROVIA,CA as well. As a result, you are way too far away from CO for any ADSL service.

With cable, you don't have to fight over distance I wouldn't have broadband if it wasn't for Adelphia, SBC has been slooooow in getting DSL deployed in Mendocino County, so far, it's only in Ukiah.

No I would not consider "bad neighborhoods" solely on the basis that they had the best or closest proximity to the CO...Since I am in a position where I can pick and choose where I will live next I am simply saying that one of the priority items on my list is that I can get broadband without having to fight with the ISP over my distance...

My brother's prefix is 562-634-xxxx in case you want to check it out...but then he's not as "in to" having broadband as I am...

FM, Thanks but no thanks!

Yes DSL is an important factor, but it is not important enough to decide where our new office is located. Location, Safety and Pricing are far more important factors then DSL.

Your telling me you will much rather move into a bad neighborhood for faster DSL access? Don't take it personal but wouldn't that be very unlikely? I really don't understand how your brother's DSL problems can add any help to this topic?

My prefix is 626-358-XXXX

I'm sure if I can get enough interest Verizon will do something about it, since this is the biggest industrial area in the city of Arcadia. More business = more $$$ for both the City and Verizon.

Is Verizon available for contact on this board?

Thanks for reading my post and your kind input.

To sum up, it pays to study broadband options before move into any place.
Amen to that.

I got lucky with my house. I'm getting reliable 650/650 on a 768/768 SDSL connection...and they are constantly telling me I am overprovisioned and I should drop down to 384 or they won't service me...but I stick to my guns (since they gave it to me in the first place) and honestly, I can live with it where it is for now.

When I move I will definately make sure that I choose a location where distance to the CO is not an issue for high-speed broadband.

What is your telephone prefix? Prefix is the 3 digits after area code of 10-digit telephone number.

Are you in Zip code 91006? I understand while you are indeed within the city limit of Arcadia, you are in an area away from main Arcadia city block. You are actually between the city of Irwindale and El Monte. As you mentioned your ILEC (incumbent local exchange carrier) is Verizon, it appears to me that your telephone CO (central office) is actually located in Monrovia which is too far away from you for any ADSL service unless Verizon is willing to install RT (remote terminal) which is not likely at all.

To sum up, it pays to study broadband options before move into any place.

Brent,

Our street address is GOLDRING RD. & PECK RD. Again there are a few hundred businesses out here and I'm just not sure why no one company is offering this service?

I can try and see what is available to you, But I will need some more info from you. If you log-in to this site, you can PM (private message) me. Send me your full service address with zip, and phone number. This will allow me to check distance, and see what is available.

Thanks all for the reply.

I've called Altrio and their numbers just rings and rings.

SBC is out of the question since this all goest through Verizon.

Verizon says to call back every 6 months!

Ya, Altrio is a great company. Too bad they're going out of business because overbuilding very rarely works or is profitable. There are exceptions, of course, but Altrio is not one of them.

Enter your telephone number at »www.sbc.com/ if no DSL available then you are out of luck for DSL. Is your building wired with cable television service? If not, most likely Charter will not willing to provide cable Internet access to you unless you pay for wiring which could cost many thousands dollars.

Another company you should try is Altrio Communications (a newly start-up, non-major): 1.5Mb down / 300Kb up for $39.95 including modem rental and no surcharge for non-video subscribers ($19.95 first 12 months for subscribers in Arcadia only due to Adelphia also offer same low introductory rate for that long.) plus first month free, but serving east part of Pasadena (in Charter territory), Arcadia and Monrovia (within the City limit only and in Adelphia territory) only.

  Hi all,

We just moved into the business district of Arcadia / borderline EL Monte. Located on GOLDRING RD. There is about 200+ companies here with no DSL or Cable avail. Some of my neighbors have used DIRECT TV's satellite dsl, but he claims it's speed is between dial-up and a low speed DSL line. He's paying $99+ a month for satellite access.

There are about 3 blocks or business district here and not one company is providing any internet access other then dial-up.

Some help please?
