| Creative Soundblaster support?
I have a new Dell computer with Soundblaster audio card. Windows Update just informed me that there is a new driver for my card. I know better than to download the driver from Windows Update. I also don't want to get the driver from Dell's site as I had a new NVidia driver from the Dell site wreck my video and I had to uninstall and reinstall to get rid of the bad driver and then I got that driver with no problem from NVidia itself. I've had problems over the years with drivers from the Dell site so I think it better to go directly to the vendor site).
Problem is with Creative, I go to their site and to support and I cannot get anywhere on the support page. I click on "download drivers" and get nowhere. I can't even get an address or phone number to contact them. After I select my "region/country" and click on "go" nothing happens. Any suggestions?

| reply to Mele20 Creative doesnt support "Dell" or "oem" audio cards.....I learned the hard way, with a "Dell" sb live 5.1 sb0200 ...If your card came with the computer, you must get your support through Dell.... However, you can download drivers from the Creative site.... Whether they work or not is another story.:( Good Luck |

Also, if you have a popup stopper, make sure you are allowing popups for the Creative site. |

| reply to Mele20 Thanks everyone! Norb, I tried with IE also and had the same problem.
paranoidxe, the U.S. site did the trick! I let it run the software audio update on my box and it said I am up to date.
I went back to Windows Update and looked at the driver this time to see exactly what it is. It looks like it is for me. I have Creative SoundBlaster Live! (WDM) 5.1 Digital DR release 1.1.3 card. This drive at Windows Update is a "Creative Technology,LTD. Multi Media Software Update released Sept 22, 2003 for Creative SBLive! series (WDM). I think I need to go back to Creative's site and search for it.
Rainallday, I know Creative doesn't support the Dell card, but I had called Dell earlier (and get this I got a Dell tech in Texas!!! not India!) and she told me if I didn't want the driver from Dell's site to go get it at Creative's site.
I just finished "repairing" the Creative Software on my computer. It appeared to reinstall everything rather than "repair" and took a long time. Dell tech told me to repair because I cannot run the Creative Diagnostics. I get a screen that has information cut off on the right side and I cannot enlarge the window. So I am not sure what it says. There is a diagnose button at top of the screen so I clicked on it and on the next screen it says "click the 'start tests' button to continue" but there is no button to click! I told the Dell tech this and she said to repair or reinstall. That didn't fix it.
This is the second 8300 Dimension tower Dell has sent me. The first was defective, but it was able to run the Creative Diagnostics. So I should be able to run the Diagnostics on this tower. It was those Diagnostics that showed the Altec Lansing speakers were defective also. Any suggestions as to how to get the Diagnostics to run? I'm not having trouble but I would like to know that if I do have trouble that I can successfully run the Creative Diagnostics. Dell's attitude was...why did I want to run the Creative Diagnostics when the Dell Diagnostics is so much better...so I don't think Dell will help me get this working. -- "Everything can be taken from a man or woman but one thing: the last of the human freedoms - to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's destiny." | You may find some good help at the Forums at the creative site....Perhaps they also may have a patch or 2 for your type card, which may help with the diagnostics running correctly...Its a good place to ask...sorry I cant help more....Heck my thought was reinstall or repair, but I know thats a pain...... |
