[wireless] Linksys Wusb11 & procnics9x.dll Error.. Help!

Greetings!

I have been working on installing a Linksys Wusb11 usb adaptor for hours and am ready to throw the %$^#$^ thing out the window!

I followed the manual and installed the cd, etc. Plugging the adaptor in while windows is booted will show that the card is recognized, and working. I reboot and Windows disables the card with a Driver conflict error (a procnics9x.dll error also appears) If I unplug and replug the adaptor while windows is up and running, all is good!

Linksys was absolutely no help (saying that procnics9x.dll is a windows file, I dont believe it is in any of the cab files!)

To Summarize:

Boot windows with device plugged in.. get network map errors, a procnics9x.dll error and the card is disabled in control panel.

Unplug & re-attach:

All is good!

Reboot.. same thing happens!

What gives!!!!

Thanks

Andy

Re: [wireless] Linksys Wusb11 & procnics9x.dll Error.. Help!

What OS? Have you tried unstalling the software, cleaning the registry, rebooting and inserting the card and installing the drivers when prompted?

this usually occurs with windows 98 and windows me. try changing usb slots . if that does not help . intall the usb device on another computer . to isolate the problem .

I'm getting the same error message ("can't load procnic9x.dll") on a Win95 notebook, and haven't been able to find the solution at all. It's not a USB issue, b/c it's on a card, and it doesn't matter which card slot I put it in -- I still get the same error. I haven't been able to find anything about it in the Microsoft Knowledge Base or the Linksys version of the KB. I found this discussion via google. I'm considering putting Win98 on the notebook, but I suspect I'll get the same result. Other than buying an XP notebook (which I really don't want to do) any ideas?

Thanks!

I spent hours trying to fix the problem to no avail. I have a Vaio slimtop and also get this error Unable to load procnics9x.dll!

HELP!

Hurray! After spending hours and hours with a customer service rep from India who did go through a script instead of experience, I finally gave up on this. I returned the adapter and exchanged it for a D-Link adapter. Costs 10$ less than the discounted Linksys adapter and I was online within 15 - 20 minutes, including install, configuration and testing of connection - works like a dream! Dump linksys adapter and buy something else!

Also getting this message with this Linksys card (PCI). I just threw in a generic no-name brand to replace it and it worked perfectly. This has nothing to do with USB or USB drivers, at least in my case.

STAY AWAY from LinkSYS if you use Win98 or 95!

just found this one out , go to your add remove program. uninstall a previous wlan monitor. this was possibly caused by improper setups .

i just spent a lot of time trying to get thru to linksys tech support. while i waited (and was dropped twice) i managed to fix the problem. it's confusing and buggy...

read the instructions. i installed the card, then drivers. this is wrong. install the cd drivers for your card. it will ask you to restart. SAY NO. *shut down* the computer yourself (no restart!). install the card, and reboot.

you will likely see the procnics9x.dll error. click ok. go to your device manager in the control panel, and click on the network card (it should probably have an ! on it, as it isn't working). click it's properties, and reinstall/update the driver. make sure the cd is in the drive, and let it automatically search in the windows directory, and the cd (check both boxes). it should find the drivers (somewhere) and request a restart.

presto! it should work.

(environment: windows 98se, linksys wireless-g pci adapter WMP54G)

FYI ... we got the same error message but got online anyway?! I did use the online support and here is the dialogue hope it helps you ... it did me:

magoo: I am trying to install this (WUSB11) on a win98 computer and keep coming up with an error that says I need the file ProcNICs9x.dll but can't find it anywhere ... please help!!!
Heide De Ocampo: Welcome to Linksys Live Tech Support.
magoo: thank you
Heide De Ocampo: 98 1st or 2nd edition?
magoo: 2nd
Heide De Ocampo: Right click on my computer then click on properties
magoo: ok
Heide De Ocampo: What do you see there?
magoo: a system properties screen
Heide De Ocampo: Yes
magoo: with numerous tabs ... do you want me to go to device manager?
Heide De Ocampo: On the system properties it says Win98 SE or what?
magoo: win 98 se
Heide De Ocampo: Ok. You must install the software first then the driver, ok. Try uninstalling the driver first then remove the wireless adapter
magoo: ok ... then what
Heide De Ocampo: Install the CD first, turn off the computer. Plug the USB adapter then install the driver
magoo: ok ... and that should fix the problem?
Heide De Ocampo: Right
magoo: BTW ... will there be an icon in the taskbar?
Heide De Ocampo: Yes
magoo: okay ... thank you very much for your help
Heide De Ocampo: Thank you for chatting with us today.
Heide De Ocampo: Have a great evening!
