Your favorite IRC script

Hey..

I thought this could be a fun thing to ask in here.. there once was a thread like this but it's so old I couldn't even reply in it. I found it through the IRC FAQ. I read nearly all of that FAQ and got started on IRC filesharing just today. I think it's really cool, because it's kind of advanced and not as easy to use as other conventional p2p software. The complexity kind of makes it fun, and I'm sure all of you who love IRC know very well what I'm talking about.

I started off with Invision and so far it's working reat... I also use the XDCC viewer/searcher script, but that's just a small addon, rather than a huge thing like Invision. It just allows you to see the offerings of XDCC bots and allows you to search within them too. Pretty cool, although it's not as cool as I'd like it to be... for example, you can't double-click on a file you find with a searcher to make it send a download.. as easy as that sounds, it's not there. There are a couple of small things like that I would change abuot it but for now it's more than good enough.

What are you using and why?

Invision is what i learned on as well.I still use it with some added stuff but thats for like Folding@Home and sports scores etc.
I also useNoName script similar to invision and Nextgen's Acidmax also very similar.

Good luck in your irc experiances, theres alot to learn and you will enjoy learning it all till its a natural instinct to want to learn more and participate in every aspect of channels groups and server operating etc etc:)

I saw NextGen's website and I saw screens of AcidMax and I'm very very impressed.. it looks extremely cool.. just tell me, what is its main strength? I need something leech-oriented.. because with my connection (like 20KB/sec up) I shouldn't even be thinking about releasing or anything.

Another question.. if a DCC file transfer is interrupted.. for whatever reason.. do you have to redownload the whole file or do you begin where it cut you off? I am pretty sure you have to redownlad the whole thing, in which case I would consider that as one of DCC file transfer's major weaknesses. But heck the speed is amazing!

In DCC options check "if file exists" resume. As long as you haven't moved or deleted it.

Does that work with any file?

the resume feature is mIRC option not the scripts...so it will be in most to all scripts.

As long as the xdcc has resume on(which most to all do) then ,yes all files will resume.

and as long as you resume it from the same bot.

I also use NNScript.

But IMO, those who are new to mirc shouldn't start off with scripts, they should try to learn the basics of mirc, then if the need arises, consider installing a script.

What do you consider the basics?

Just so I know? Text commands and such? Well, if you think I should first know how to manually do

/msg [OCS-HS-020] xdcc send #9

ok.. but what for if a script can do just that for me if I click on an item and then click the option REQUEST DOWNLOAD?
Or is it something different you meant?

I downloaded Nexgen's AcidMax full mIRC script. However, I have invision installed right now.. I want to try out AcidMax as well.. but I assume I can't just install AcidMAx when I have invision installed? Do I have to uninstall Invision first?

Where is the AUTOJOIN option?

I don't get it.. when I'm in a channel and I right-click inside the channel I have the option to add it to AUTOJOIN, yet when I start MIRC absolutely nothing happens. I can set a perform action.. but that sort of defeats the purpose of autojoin, doesn't it? Well what the hell.

I really like Invision. Does everything I need it to. Beats the vanilla mIRC.

Just make a new directory for AcidMix. I have several Mirc programs on this machine. Example.. I have mirc in the default directory then made a folder called scanner1 for my IRCD and another named Extra MIRC.
Hope this helps.
