 | [Vonage] Vonage Problems I have vonage service and I am having some problems. I have the service connected but I am having a problem with the service and to date their tech support has been unable to help me out. What happens is while on a call if I am also using my PC and open a browser I will loose the ability to transmit voice through the phone. I can hear the connected party but they can not hear me. I am using a linksys wireless router. After talking with Vonage they told me to open up ports on the router to which I think they gave me inaccurate info. Can someone out there help me out?
Here is the info that I got from vonage, I was not able to follow the instructions due to the router configuration page having the following fields to fill in; Internal From, Internal To, and External From. While from vonage they only seemed to give me two fields to fill in.

Thank you for contacting customer care at Vonage. Below are the step-by-step direction to open the ports on your linksys router.
1) Download the latest firmware through Linksys router's website.
2) Login to the Linksys router as follows:
open up browser and in the address bar type 192.168.1.1 and hit enter.
You'll see a login window pops up; for "username" leave it blank. for "Password" type in admin. Hit enter.
On the top click on the tab "Advance" and then click on "Forwarding". On the "Forwarding" page, type in as follows:
Customized Ext. Ports Protocol Server IP Enable application UDP box
Vonage 5060 to 5063 check 192.168.1.3 check Vonage 69 to 69 check 192.168.1.3 check Vonage 123 to 123 check 192.168.1.3 check Vonage 10000 to 20000 check 192.168.1.3 check

LBDSLLightning BoltVIP join:2002-01-07 Auburn Hills, MI 3 edits | That is all correct assuming you have the Vonage device set as a static IP of 192.168.1.3
See my screen shot, this example has the vonage device with IP .50, but you can have it set at anything.
Another thing to make sure is you have enough bandwidth. What speed of service do you have, and have you run a speed test to make sure you are getting enough? -- Lightning Bolt Technologies |

2 edits | reply to pcameron92 This sounds like a classic upload bandwidth problem ("What happens is while on a call if I am also using my PC and open a browser I will loose the ability to transmit voice through the phone"). In other words, these are the exact symptoms when you do not have sufficient upstream bandwidth to sustain the Codec you have configured from the Vonage control panel. Check your speeds (upload/download). Vonage has many router configurations, including Linksys posted on their web site. You can confirm there.
Edit: I can see LBDSL answered your Linksys question. |

| reply to pcameron92 You download speed is likely real good, so you hear fine. The upload is likely more limited since typing and such do not have high upload demands. I wonder what really runs when you browse -- maybe some internet acceleration program caching pages in advance. still, you'ld think that would tax the download more than upload. (Just thinking out loud, ...)
