Re: SF bay area problems? I'm still down in San Francisco (the Mission) at 11:30 a.m. The Earthlink customer support person said an "OC1" cable was cut and SBC and Covad are scrambling to fix it. She said people who connect through SBC are up sporadically, and that that network was essentially running on half capacity, so customers' connections are being periodically disrupted to allow other people to connect.
Covad customers, she said, are still down. She couldn't provide any estimate when service might be restored.
As for dial up numbers that work, try 415-228-4420 or 415-489-3500. If you're in the 415 area code, just dial the 7 digit number. All others should dial 1-415 before the 7 digit number. If you have call waiting and want to turn it off so you don't lose your connection, put a *70 and a , (comma) in front of the number.
This is a real drag. |

Thanks for the detailed update. Wouln't it be nice if ELN posted such stuff on the status page? Save them lots of phone calls.... oh well.

Well, I'm back up again, just like yesterday morning. Looks like Earthlink has decided to let me be up while I'm at work. How nice of them. Sarcasm aside, it looks like there is less traffic hammering the server in the morning. I'll find out if it is fixed when I get home from work and see if it is still working.
I remember when I signed up for Earthlink that they had a similar problem with a server (Oakland redsomething server). It took them two months to get it fixed and spawned a huge thread here. People were calling up Earthlink and getting like 3 months of refunds due to the downtime. |
