Re: URGENT: New video card - Mac won't boot Some more info.
Did an erase and install of Panther. Went throught the first disk. Restarted. Hung on blue screen (after white screen with apple logo). Waited. Tried to boot again. Nothing.
Removed new card. Inserted old card. Rebooted. Went through fine and install asked for disk 2 to finish. That's where I am now.
A bad card? These cards just don't work with my machine? I'm at a loss over here. -- I never met a guy I could not forget except for Guy Forget. |

When the Apple Discussion Boards come back online. Do a search for 'after installing panther screen goes black ', it's a 500+ post thread that talks aboot this subject.

Confusion abounds. Doing some research I have confused myself even further.
Some sites say that the GeForce 4 Ti requires a 4x AGP slot (Apple.com for one). Others say a 4x or 2x. Your Sawtooth has a 2x AGP slot. However, HERE is a test showing the GeForce 4 Ti running in a Sawtooth.
What does all this mean? Well, it looks like the GeForce 4 Ti is/maybe incompatible with "Sawtooth" G4s.
My advice? Send it back and tell 'em You have a G4 "Gigabit Ethernet", not a "Sawtooth.

If he has a dual 533 it's a Digital Audio G4 (with a 4x slot) not a Sawtooth. |

Dammit, your right. I was sure he had a Sawtooth. Disregard everything I said.(That card if good, should work) I'll go do research on the machine he does have.
I really need to pay better attention -- Johnny's in the basement, mixing up the medicine. I'm on the pavement, thinkin' 'bout the gov't. |

jDynoPremium join:2001-02-20 Washington, DC | Well, I'm back up with my old card - and on my previous (old) install of Panther. I'm gonna request another card, and give it one more shot. If that doesn't work, I'm going with an ATI 9000.
Big thanks to everyone who helped along the way. -- I never met a guy I could not forget except for Guy Forget. |
